Hi,

What will be the outcome if I use free weights during a moderate calorie diet such as 1500 calories a day? Will I gain muscle and lose weight? Will I burn calories?Or will I just burn fat and not gain any muscle since I am not eating that many calories?I will be grateful for any comments, thanks in advanced.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can answer your questions. I can't see how it could be done outside of testing in a lab.

But basically, lifting weights will be good. It will add muscle, or at least help you retain the muscle you have.

It will burn calories, and if you don't have enough glucose in your blood, it will turn to your fat stores. (Possibly your muscle stores, too, but your weight lifting should help counteract this.)

I can't think of anything bad about doing a moderate amount of weight lifting... it all looks good to me!

Unless you're genetically gifted, you're unlikely to add significant muscle while on a calorie-restricted diet.   Normally, you need to eat in excess of your maintenance calories to add weight in the form of muscle.

Your muscles should shape up, though, since you'll be using up some of the marbling fat deposits within them.

But you're never going to worry Arnie on 1500 cals / day!

Will I gain muscle and lose weight?
You will gain muscle if you work hard enough at weight lifting. Remember that in order to gain muscle you have to work them to the point where they are slightly injured. This is how muscle builds.
You will lose weight when your muscles get bigger since muscle demand energy and they will take this from your caloric intake. To 'feed' your muscles you should consume good protein.

Will I burn calories?
A pound of muscle consumes approximately 30-50 calories per day

will I just burn fat
You will as long as you are consuming sufficient calories, otherwise you may destroy your muscle mass and that can be unhealthy since it lowers your metabolism.
