I have actually had two different people criticize me in the past week for eating grapes because, "they are so fattening" and "not healthy".
Over dinner a few days ago my husband commented on how well I had been doing. My mom (while eating fried chicken fingers dipped in ranch dressing and french fries) said, "....well you did eat a lot of grapes today and they are really fattening."
Then, yesterday at work I offered to share my grapes with a co-worker and she said, "No thank you. I am trying to eat healthy and grapes just aren't healthy." She said this just minutes after talking about how she ate an entire box of chocolate malted milk balls the previous night.
In both cases I was actually speechless. :? They can stick with the fried chicken, ranch dressing, french fries, and chocolate malted milk balls, and I will continue eating my "junk" food. People never cease to amaze me.

You're right, Aryn-
People really wear blinkers about stuff like that. I used to work with a man who was rather portly (putting it kindly). He often moaned to me about how healthily he ate and how he just seemed unable to lose weight.
I had to bite my tongue not to mention the daily 1 kg bag of chocolate raisins that he snacked on.
But the clincher was when he asked me about a sandwich I was eating one day. He went on to lecture me about how being vegetarian was unhealthy, since I couldn't be getting all the nutrition I needed.
Since I'd just finished showering after my daily lunchtime run, I could only nod in awe of his deep, deep knowledge on the subject of nutrition. ;)
It takes all sorts... as they say.

When my sister moved into a home with a plum tree one spring she was surprised to put on many pounds eating the wonderful plums. Point is, anything with calories can be "fattening."
But for someone eating junk food to say they are fattening is nonsence... especially to say they are not healthy.
I love them!

| Grapes have ingredients in them that are heart healthy. I have about 3/4 cup of grapes nearly every day. You likely should have 2 to 3 portions of fruit every day. 3/4 cup of grapes is approximately one portion of fruit. Grapes have no fat in them at all but do have a lot of sugar. And like Peter says, you can gain weight eating anything if you have too many calories.

Grapes are soooo good:yumm:. Our family's favorite are the red ones, I usually only buy them when they are on sale though.

Grapes are wonderfully healthy. Unfortunately, they are also a fruit that often contains more pesticide and toxins than most other fruit as we don't normally peel our grapes (at least not at my house ... Good temple slaves are so hard to find).
My choice is for organic, whenever I can find it. I am willing to pay the extra $$, particularly for things like grapes.

| Unlike with more solid fruit like apples, I usually stop eating grapes when they're gone. One way to think about them is: at 60 calories per 100g (100ml), they are sugared-water. Very sugared. Pure orange juice would be 37 calories per 100ml - this is 62% more. Mind you it is only a problem because I can get through them so quickly - I can eat a chocolate bar's worth (250 calories) without thinking. If you are disciplined about portion size, then why not.

Point taken! But, the benefit of eating low fat foods is to fill full with eating small quantitys, therefore not abusing from the low fat foods and to use as an excuse to eat more.Another example is below:
Dickjane the third eats 3 normal meals a day, but are filled with high fat, high sugar foods. He maintains his weight. Now, Marry Poppins the fourth eats 3 normal meals a day, but are all low fat, low sugar, unprocessed foods and the same quantitys as Dickjane the third, Marry Poppins loses weight dramatically.Get the idea?*cough*, now if youll excuse me, I have some royal errands to attend. :)
