I recently had an epiphany that I wasn't happy with myself, I weigh 205 right now and I am 19.  I am not necessarily overweight as I am just walkign with excess fat on my stomach, thighs and buttox.  I get physical activity in from sports everyday and I am hitting the elyptical each day, but I want to be toned.

I am having a hard time really knowing what to eat and not eat, what to look for in foods, etc besides calorie intake, but I know there is so much more than that.  I know more than half the battle is what you eat.

I have already cut things out like Pop, now Beer and even hard liquor I am goign to do my best to take very little of when I go out each night.  I stay away from the "no duh" foods, fast food, but I really want to know what I can eat in order to maintain the ability to lose weight.  The best fruits, vegetables, products I can buy in a grocery store, etc.

I just really want to know what to eat so I can not be on an empty stomach and be dying for food, but I can be on a content stomach while knowing I am eating good.

I think it is Peter that says the best fruits and veggies are the ones you will eat. If you absolutely can't stand broccoli, then pick something else!! As many vegetables as fruits that exist, there ought to be at least two or three that you really enjoy...

May I suggest dill pickles?  If you like them, they are great for a snack and have hardly any calories!

Or maybe some beef jerky?  It keeps you full for a while because of the protein but isn't very high in calories or fat.

Oh there are so many foods that are good for you. Before I list some of the things that I eat, I wanted to tell you. You should stay away from foods that have trans fat in them. Also, read labels at the store when buying stuff. You would be surprised at what you find.

flax-seed- great on cereal-excellent source of fiber

olive oil- high in calories/very good for you

Promise butter with omega 3

nuts- walnuts- high calories/but very good for you - also another source of omega 3

blueberries- another super food

broccoli

beans of any sort- high in fiber/low in fat

cereal- read the label/some are good for you and some are not

Whole wheat- breads, pasta, rice, etc.

Pretty much any fruit or veggie is good for you

All the meats I eat are fish/turkey/or chicken - if I got to have some red meat, I try to make it 90% or really lean

grill foods instead of frying them

bake instead of deep fat frying

Well, theres some pointers for you. Good Luck in your guest to be healthy.
