| I had a Boca Burger today and guess I didn't realize that Ketchup has more calories than I thought. Being a tomato deriative and all. I was sitting there proudly dunking my burger bits into ketchup thinking what a nice healthy lo-cal veggie-based lunch. Only when I was updating my calorie counter did I realize that the 3 tbs of ketchup was 45 cals. Ooops. Lesson learned.

I just read your post, then sprinted into my kitchen (well, maybe not actually sprinted ) and my ketchup has 20 cal per Tablespoon. Guess a lesson learned for me, too.

My thing with ketchup is that it's also often loaded with sugar and HFC so I avoid it.
I tried making my own, it was good, but not the same.

Wow, I didn't really want to know that! I love ketchup! My warped brain always tried to pass it off as a vegetable. So sad...

| I use passata which is basically sieved tomatos. 100g is 25 calories so a tablespoon (15ml) would be 4 calories, 3 tablespoons about 11 calories. It is not the same as ketchup but is very 'tomato-like' and I have a clear consciousness

Lol, don't feel bad, my brain works the same way.
I had no idea that ketchup was so high in calories.

It's not really that bad...at least I don't think so. When I compare to the calories in mayonaise, or the cals in an extra slice of cheese to cover up the blandness of my burger, I figure I can justify my ketchup I love the stuff! (Mine is 15 cal per tbl)

I am a ketchup-aholic, too! But thanks to my mom, I've always known its calorie content. However, now I buy Heinz One Carb Reduced Sugar Ketchup, which tastes good enough to me and it only has 5 calories per tbsp! I get it at Walmart, too, so it's not super pricey.
