I know there is a thread about foods you have given up when starting a healthy lifestyle, but i don't recall ever seeing the great foods people have discovered on their healthy journey. What foods did you find that you absolutely love, and they are good for you? Any foods that you thought you hated but turned out to adore them?
Some of the things i have discovered, i cannot live without now. Soy crisps, soy milk, kashi cereal, whole wheat high protien wraps, bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, all sorts of teas...
I've also found that I love certain veggies i didn't think i cared for before. spinach and broccoli top the list. artichokes are also a favorite of mine. sugar snap peas in the pod and sweet potatoes would never cross my lips 3 years ago... also realized that i preferthe healthy versions of some foods- dannon light and fit yogurt, sugar free pudding, white meat of turkey, wheat bread, fat free cool whip, white chicken meat.
and i also fell in love with fruits again. i am a huge berry fan- raspberries, blueberries (i eat those daily), black berries, strawberries. i also love apples, kiwi fruit, raisins, gogi berries...
it's pretty neat to think about all of the healthy foods i have incorporated into my diet and i don't even look at it as "being on a diet". i can't live without these foods! they are all healthy (the worst is probably some of my sugar free stuff) and taste great. i have learned how to make healthy alternatives for some of my favorites (i can make a great low cal pizza!) and still not feel totally deprived. sure, i may indulge in french fries and white bread every now and then, but i really can't picture my life eating all the stuff i "gave up" on a regular basis.
did this happen to anyone else?

| I eat so very differently. In fact, I'll have to think hard to figure out what foods I used to eat before which I still eat now. I guess I used to eat peanuts even when I was eating unhealthy. Apart from that, generally everything I eat today I never ate back then and vice versa. A complete 180 degrees.

Good topic!
I "discovered" eggplant a couple of years ago. Very versatile veggie!
Tempeh is a yummy vegetarian alternative to tofu (although kinda hard to find unless you have a Whole Foods or similar store).
Lentils are such a cheap source of nutrition. Learned how to make indian dhal with lentils about a year or so ago. Now it's one of my favorite healthy dishes!

Celery.
I can't say I LOVE it...but I will eat it, and I never would have in the past.

Raisins, just brush you teeth afterwards!
I say raisins because they have replaced the sugar on my cereal, and mixing some in with a "pile" of carrots makes it a sweet carrot salad.
Because I eat so few sweets, they taste like candy to me.

P.S.
I should modify trimB's avatar to say Raisin Baby and use it myself!
