Hi :)
Tomorrow is going to be our cheat day, and I'm going to make some kind of pasta with italian sausage in it.
Here's my problem. It has nutrition facts and the calories for 1 serving is 170 calories. That's not bad, but the serving size is 2.5oz. Do I *really* need to invest in a scale? If so, how much do they go for..?
What gets me is that you can sometimes figure out how big or how much the serving actually is when you read the "Servings per container". It says "Varied" LOL :( If it said "6" then it would of been simple to cut 6 equal slices and know exactly what we are eating.
Also, are their healthier options to italian sausage? I actually really enjoy the breakfast links turkey sausage, but I was wondering if there's something better for this. I've already started to make my meatballs with ground turkey these days and feel better about them :D (plus I actually like the taste A LOT better with ground turkey, so that's a huge win!)
Thanks in advance for any input and hooray for my first post!
Mmmm <--- Really wants some right now.

| I can't help you with the serving thing, but wanted to say they make some really yummy chicken sausage! Much healthier for you and I love them. Lots of different flavors too...you should look for them.

I really like the Honeysuckle brand turkey Italian sausage....I also flavor ground turkey to taste like sausage...fennel seed is the key plus some Italian seasoning. Also regular sausage loses alot of fat if you prick it all over and boil it...i sometimes brown it alittle first or afterwards.
Hope this help.

if there is a trader joe's near by, they make a great chicken sausage in a variety of flavors.

| I have two answers for ya ..lol Yes, get a scale. I have found weighing foods so very important. I always knew my serving sizes were large, but never that overboard until my wife got me a food scale. She bought me a digital one for somwhere around $20, it is well worth the expense. I am do not knowexactly where you are located but if it is anywhere near western or central NY, Gianelli's makes a slamming turkey sausage. It comes in, mild or hot and I actually prefer it to regular sausage now. The sausage has 90 calories per piece. Good luck with your journey!
