Im 25 now and i saw this site about 2 1/2 months ago. I weighed 240lbs and i am 5`8. Thats a lot i know. I used to weigh about 170 which still according to the BMI thing is overweight but i was muscular and did not at all look overweight then. Anyways, when i saw this site and informed myself on food and calories i took it to heart and from then on i did watch what i eat BUT the thing people need to do i think is not restrict yourself from normal things that you ate but just restrict the amounts. I still eat pasta and bread but not nearly as much as before. I still keep my calories under 1800 which is fine with me because this way im never hungry but i wouldn't eat so many calories if i didn't exercise as much as i do. I realize people don't have time to work out but i go to school and work full time and have a full time girl friend and I still manage to go 6 days a week which i realize is a lot but for now until i reach my goal thats what ill do and when i reach my goal, ill cut back to 4 days a week. Basically what im trying to say in case some people need to hear it again is that if you actually work out and eat things that would not make you go over a certain amount of calories for the day, you WILL lose weight. My friend did the Atkins hardcore, lost 20 lbs in 2 months. Was soo happy and now he gained it all and 5lbs more. Why? I think it was because he was being unrealistic. I think you should eat what you want in moderation and hit the gym. Hit it hard, do the cardio, lift some weights, you will look better, people will ask you if you're working out. Its great. I don't want to weight myself because i don't really want to know how much i weigh right now. I do know that everyone sees a difference, Ive lost at least 3 inches around the waist and i had to give away jeans that were a 38 inch waist. Im sorry this is so long but i am so happy this website exists and good luck to everyone!!! |

Thanks for the post, and you are so right about people asking if you are working out... or dieting... or whatever. One comment like that is enough to keep you going for another three months easy! Peter |

Man you're not kidding. People first saw the difference in my face and now they see it everywhere. It is supposed to get harder to lose weight because of the calories that you are supposed to eat goes down but at the same time, those little comments are way more than enough to keep you going. Think about those comments, think about all the stuff you can do while you're on that elliptical machine or treadmill, they will keep you going! |

I remember what a thrill it was to first hear someone ask, "Do you work out?" Then as I got more and more buff, it hurt my feelings. I wanted them to ask "where" or "how often" did I work out, which mostly they did. Haha, Peter |

Your maintenance calories will go down if you were to stop exercising since you have less fat using calories. Not to say that you will but here's a little advice..Don't reduce your calories if the weight loss slows down. That's one sure way to crash your metabolism. If you're eating 2000 calories/day then the weight loss stops and you reduce to 1500 then it stops again and you reduce again, eventually you'll be eating practically nothing just to try to maintain your weight. IF you experience a long plateau eat an extra 200 calories/day for 1-2 weeks and up your cardio by 10-15 mins per session. Remember you have to keep your body guessing. |
