I've just started to eat oatmeal, the kind you cook on the stove, and I really like it.  I am wondering if I can eat this for lunch aswell as breakfast.  I am trying to lose about 15 pounds.  Its very filling and I know its very healthy.  Any advise would be great.

I know an old man who said that after WWII, while he was poor and going through college on the GI bill, he lived on nothing but oatmeal for 4 years.

I'm guessing he went home for a Sunday dinner once in a while and ate a few apples for "roughage" but it is a really good whole food.

Two meals of oatmeal and a "sensible dinner" sounds like a very good diet plan to me. Dr Oz & Dr. Roizen (You on a Diet) believe in eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday to keep the agonizing choices to a minimum. I like that.
Let us know how it goes.

Did you see the whole other forum topic on oatmeal?
forum4/975.html

Thought you might be interested, although you do have a bit more specific question.  I think oatmeal is a great food... filling, whole grain, and pretty cheap!  My only concern would be whether or not you are getting a good variety of vitamins & other nutrients.  Maybe you could add a banana to your oatmeal?  Or some raisins sometimes?  It's pretty easy to add a serving of fruit to oatmeal, but veggies are more tricky... does your dinner or any snacks include any veggies?
