Note - once upon a time we had a member called Becci. She was even a forum moderator. But she left as quickly as she arrived, taking her topic with her.

That was a very short story.

OK the background is that I've been monitoring the error logs. I'm trying to get to the situation where the forum content is not responsible for causing errors (that way I can use the errors as an indication that something is actually wrong, such as the forum being under attack by a 'bot', which has incidentally happened 13 times so far).
There were too many hits on this topic (because there are several links to it) and there were two options - either edit all of those links out, or create a dummy topic. I decided to go with the dummy topic.

Ok I understand that you are doing things to get rid of the errors. How you are accomplishing that is over my head. Couldn't you have just deleted the topic and then the links would be invalid? I wouldn't consider my suggestion however, since I have no idea what I'm talking about.

That was the situation - the topic was deleted I guess back in November 2007 (probably the 25th), now that I have the role of 'webmaster' I noticed that every time the Googlebot crawled one of the 18 (yes 18) pages that linked to it, this generated an error. It was insistent on finding this page, so I decided to create it (by creating a new topic and then changing its topic_id to 3690). It is easier than making 18 separate hand-edits - makes sense

Ok yeah, I get it. Very interesting about the google bot.
I kind of liked the mysterious story, but I would have always been wondering what it meant.
