I have started a diet, first one ever, I have slowly gained 60 pounds over the last 4 years and have some issues with my back and feet.
I have started eating fresh fruits and veggies, I have always had campbells soup for lunch, 60 calories, easy to carry around, sometimes I splurdge and get subway 6in turkey with mustard and all the veggies they have. I have a chip and salsa fetish which I have stopped, the cabbage soup diet does not appeal to me as it is too strict and I haven't that kind of will power. I do like the soup though, I made a batch last night, sans the lipton soup mix, just used some boullion, cilantro and cumin. Spiced it up with some green chilis, very tasty. I could eat that for lunch every other day and not have an issue.
The only exercise I get is cleaning house and light leisure swimming, with the herniated disks and plantar faciitis, standing for long periods keeps me from doing any type of aerobic exercise. I calculated what I do in a day and I burn way more calories than I take in. I had my doc do some blood test, she says everything looks great, my thyroid is functioning properly and wanted me to take a nutrition class, which I don't have time to do so I am here on this website to help me make good choices.
I used the calculator to determine how quickly I could lose 50 lbs by what I am doing now and it said 4 1/2 to 5 months. That would mean 2.5 lbs a week, should be pretty easy to do right?
Anyone have some pointers?

If standing exercise is a problem, try using resistance training (weights) for short periods (8 to 10 minutes). If you use them intensely, you can get good results even in so short a time. (The idea is to take as few rests as you can).
...I burn way more calories than I take in.
If the deficit is more than 1000 to 1200 calories per day, you're probably overdoing things. Have a couple of days a week when you're not so strict on calories. The body soon adapts to an endless routine of too-few calories.

Thank you, I will bump my calorie intake up to 1800 a few days a week. I got a yoga? ball, supposed to help with the midsection, which is where most of my weight is that I want to target and lose. I do have some 2 pound weights, I also have ankle weights that I will start to wear. I have not started the exercise part of this diet yet as I am three days in and want to jump start my metabolism once I get the eating correctly thing down.
Thanks again!

How true are the calories burned numbers for just sitting around?
Go to the calculator and click on the Help button and you can read about the accuracy of the calculator.
It's the best it can be, but it's all estimates. Use the calculator to plan your exercise, then make adjustments as necessary as you see how you do.
