I am 5' 0" and today I weighed in at 126.6. My measurements are Chest 32 Waist 27.75 Hip 34.5 Thighs 18.5 Arms 10.25 My goal is and has always been 116. I have trying for two years. I have lost 30 pounds but still cannot get that final ten pounds off. I am studying right now and plan on taking the exam to become a personal trainer. So, over the last few weeks I have really stepped up my training. I feel like I need to look good in order to get clients. My exercise routine is as follows: Monday - Cardio - High Intensity (Heart Rate over 150) for 30 minutes, Weight training - 30 minutes, 5 mile walk medium intensity Tuesday - Cardio - High Intensity, Elliptical, Interval Training 40 minutes, 5 mile walk medium intensity Wednesday - Cardio- High Intensity for 30 minutes, Weight training - 30 minutes, 5 mile walk Thursday - Cardio - High Intensity, Elliptical, Interval Training 40 minutes, 5 mile walk medium intensity. Friday- Off day Saturday - same as Wednesday Sunday - same as Wednesday My diet is as follows: 6:30 - Low Sugar Oatmeal or 1 egg with 2 egg whites and 3 slices turkey bacon 10:30 - Protein Shake - Pure Protein - I believe it is 160 calories, 2 grams of carbs and 34 grams of protein. 11:30- 4 to 6 oz. meat with a salad 2:30 - cupful of berries/handful of almonds/string cheese/or another Protein Shake 5:30 - 4 to 6 oz. meat with a salad 8pm - 2 slices deli meat/string cheese/almonds/or fat free, sugar free jello I know that this is a bunch to take in. I have been stuck in the same spot for 4 months now!! I need help. Of course my doctor and trainer think it is mental help that I need. They think my goal weight is to low and that I have set myself up for failure. They also don't think that I can or need to be at that weight. I have an athletic build. I don't look horrible however I don't seem as toned as I would like and my tummy looks I'm in my first trimester of pregnancy. If anyone has any suggestions I am open to hear and try anything. I am overwhelmed right now!! Thanks |

Your expressed goal weight 116 will put your BMI at 22.7, I don't think that is unreasonably low. I assume you're female; how old are you? (so I can use the RMR calculator) Also, have you totalled up your calories for your food intake? - how much does it work out to? |

Of course I'm female. Only a women would be this quacky!! I am 36. The calories are around 1260. Which is really hard for me to maintain. Usually I am around 960. |

unadjusted RMR = absolute minimum calories to eat each day = 1186. maintenance calories, for a conservative (i.e. low) estimate i'll go with "lightly active", which is 1631, so eat 1305..1386 for effective loss. So if I understand correctly (that you're not eating within your ideal fat loss range, and in fact are routinely eating under your unadjusted RMR) then I guess not eating enough calories is the most likely problem (and as you are no stranger to protein powders, you'll know that it is an easy and effective way to consume more calories). |

I know that I am probably being ridiculous but 4 months without a change. I am fed up. What is sooo frustrating is I go to the gym and see people that are clearly just there to be seen. The women have on their cute little bra tops and walk around socializing the entire time & looking cute as #%@&! doing it. Yet here I am working my A** off and giving it 110% and I can't lose my final 10 pounds to save my life!!!! So, I was just wondering if someone out there had any ideas or suggestions? I am open and willing to do whatever it takes. |

I stand by my suggestion, which basically is: count calories, make sure you eat at least 1186 each day, but ideally eat in the range 1305..1386, and closely monitor your results. I mean, after 4 months of under-eating and seeing no results, what have you got to lose? |

You are totally right. Starting today I am changing my attitude and will be much more watchful about my calories. Next question is in your opinion do you think that I am over doing it? |

If I'm reading the above correctly then you are weight-training on 3 consecutive days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday), I would advice no consecutive days. Also, my understanding of interval training is that if done 'properly' i.e. with the intense intervals at your maximal intensity, you may not be able to sustain a 40 minute session, 20 minutes is more realistic, so perhaps you are working longer rather than more intensely. Otherwise I think it is down to whether you are enjoying your activity, because you won't be able to give it focus if you are bored by it and deep down want to use your time in other ways. It will just feel like punishment. So if exercise is your thing and you're enjoying it (and you're not always tired and dreading the gym) then you're not overtraining |
