Just a quick question... Thus far I've been mixing my protein shakes up with milk, but I keep reading on the label you can mix it just with water-
Has anyone done this? And how was it, honestly?

| I tried it. YUK! Probably depends on the brand and/or flavor. I had a chocolate flavor that wasn't too horrible... so I would often do half water, half milk. Vanilla was just not even drinkable unless it was all or mostly milk.

On ocassion I've mixed my powder (banana-flavour-Whey, Holland&Barret's own brand) with water.
Most of the time though I mix it with frozen fruit. (Yes, just the frozen fruit and the powder - no extra water or milk). It is lovely. Just my ?é?ú0.02.

Oh dear, the new tub I've bought is vanilla. I tried it with milk last night, and oh god it wasn't particularly pleasant. So I don't think I'll give it a go with water...
Nir, that sounds good! What sort of fruit do you use? I have the Vanilla Whey Powder from Holland and Barrett. Really wish I'd got the strawberry now Before I had the Holland and Barrett Spirulina Strawberry powder and that was pretty palatable. Hmm! At least it was on offer so I didn't pay the full ?é?ú21 or however much it normally is.

anything and everything! for example clemantines, grapefruit, pears, apples, melons, bananas, pineapples, raspberries, grapes etc.
the key is to wash, peel and dice (or segment) your fruit. Then, when it is ready to eat - put it in the freezer (I use 650ml 'takeaway' plastic containers - they're 10 for ?é?ú1 at PoundLand - as it is relatively easy to nudge the frozen fruit out of the box).
My freezer does a good job, so I usually put the fruit in the microwae for 1 minute on high power before it goes into the food processor (steel blade), with the Whey powder.
Same here, I also got my tub on one of their frequent sales (I think it was ?é?ú11 the day I got it).

Hehe. So at the end you basically have a cold sorbet-type thing? Sounds yummy.

Besides requiring a bit more effort, Nir's idea sounds much yummier. Protein fruit smoothie!
Thanks for the ideas, Nir

I have always bought plain or vanilla, and mixed it with OJ.

That idea has always made me cringe, but I may give it a go since this stuff is pretty vile. Although, blended with frozen fruit [as per Nir's suggestion], particularly banana it made a quite nice ice cream consistancy.

It's very similar to a drink sold in franchises called Orange Julius.

I've always mixed my protein powder with water, not milk......just because of the added calorie count with milk.
But, unless it is chocolate, I usually add frozen fruit to it. Vanilla and strawberry are great that way. I love frozen tropical fruit mix with vanilla
