So.. I've wanted to get healthy for a while, but whenever I started I thought 'Hey, I'm fat, nobody expects me to be healthy' and quit, because I didn't have the motivation to continue. I figure that if I binge diet/exercise to lose the weight quickly, I'll have an easier time getting healthy/keeping it off. The main reason I want to lose the weight is that graduation coming up in six weeks. I've been trying to binge diet/exercise to lose some weight (and more importantly, fat). I don't really understand why I weigh what I do, though. When I was younger, I'd go on eating binges often. As I got older, I became more interested (devoted) in various things, such as computer programming, and stopped binge eating/eating much. Over the past two years, my weight hasn't increased or decreased from 155 lbs. I'm aware that I don't take in nearly enough calories, but it doesn't make sense to me that I'm not losing weight. For breakfast, I eat something small like a muffin or an orange. Eating more than that so early in the morning gives my stomache aches. The next time I eat is when I get home. I usually have a plain white bowl of rice or a sandwich; turkey, lettuce, mustard, cheese, whole-wheat bread. After that, about three to four hours later, I'll eat supper, which is usually some kind of meat (a porkchop, half a chicken breast, something like that) and rice or potato. I drink (only) water all day; usually four to six 250 ml bottles. Over the course of the day, I'll spend between 30 and 60 minutes at a time, running. I do this atleast once every day, but sometimes as many as three or four times. This past week, I did it twice every day. I weighed 155 pounds at the beginning of the week. I weigh 154 pounds today, at the end of the week. I'm obviously doing something wrong; it doesn't make sense, as I should be burning far more energy than I'm taking in. I've thought about the problem being in genetics, but I read that genetics don't have a major effect on weight. All of the men in my family are fat, just below the obesity line. My father, for example, works 9 hour days doing golf course maintenance (mowing the greens, sandtrap raking, ect.) and doesn't eat huge amounts of food, but he's still heavy and has a large stomache. Is there anything I can do to help lose some fat quickly? Any ideas what my problem could be? Weight training is pretty much out of the question, for lack of availability. |

Hi, Fat loss is a slow process and a lot of patience and perseverance is required for that to take place.Youd be lucky to just lose 1 pound of pure fat, but when you do lose that one pound of fat, it does make a big difference in ones body shape and fat itself has very much more volume than muscle, so when you lose fat, you look very thinner than if you were to just lose muscle.Learn to make lifestyle changes thatll last you forever and have patience, the results will come, eventually...... |

Hi again. I see that you've not made much progress since October. Back then you figured your food calories as 850 - how much do you expect you are eating now? (can you calculate for me? if necessary you may have to weigh some of your food) I don't have your age or height to hand (I assume you are male) but I would approximate your unadjusted RMR at something like 1650, so clearly any scheme that has you eating any less than that is going to involve you being unable to lose fat - and correct me if I am wrong, that is the problem you are trying to address at the moment, right? Actually, losing weight quickly is not the best or healthiest way. If you have the time, I would recommend you have a look at the tutorial which addresses this matter (as well as other useful things!). Just think: if you had sorted your calories back in October, you would have already reached your goal by now. Please take some action now. [yes, you may be disappointed with "just one pound" of loss, but if you had achieved that for every week since October, you would now be 26lb lighter] Last edited on 6 May 2007 10:04 am by Nir |

You say your father works the golf club and still has a stomach. The older you get the slower your metabloism (sp.) is. Also after the age of 40 men lose 1% of their testaserone (can't spell that either.) But what happens is that men lose their strenght and get a bigger belly and lose their hair and get boobs. (could be gravity) So maybe your Dads not overweight but older. Also it's 80% diet and 20% exercise. |
