I am currently trying to lose weight. For the record, I am a 19 year old female, 5'10, 192 lbs. with a measured RMR of 1900 ( MeDgem). I do both cardio for a hour and strength training for about 30. I realized I was eating too LITTLE , therefore, I decided to bump my calorie intake to about 2200 or so because I was eating less than my RMR.  All in all, I think I burn about 900 calories alone from working out. Although I haven't been able to lose any weight, I have gain some muscle and my cardiovascular fitness has improved. Furthermore, I have gained a couple pounds of body fat even though I work out a lot. Can you someone give me some recommendation? I really want to lose body fat and is having a difficult time doing so. I want to know any suggestions on the calorie intake I should follow for cardio/strength training days, cardio only days and rest days. Your advice will be deeply appreciated.

Interesting, so the standard formulas would have given your RMR as 1717, but the MedGem measurement was 1900.

How many calories were you eating before your increase, and for how long?

How many days do you exercise in a typical week?

I would have also assumed 2200 was a good level for workout days (and 1900 for rest days).

I have gained a couple pounds of body fat even though I work out a lot.

How did you establish that it was fat that you gained [and was this during the time you increased calories?] how do you measure your body fat?

The approah you need is one of experimentaiton. Give each thing you try a couple of weeks to monitor results. If you've eaten at 2200 for a few weeks with no positive results, change to 2100 and monitor results for a couple of weeks [don't go lower than 1900 though!]

Consider adding cario sessions or working with more intensity if possible.

Hi,

Before I was eating as low as 1700 and as much as 2000 on average. I think my body was in starving mode for a long time, so I recently upped my calorie intake to about 2200 .

Last Sept. I was at 32.9 and I was weighted again with a Tanita scale and is now at 34.5% recently. I think I gained most of  that when I cut back my workouts from 6 a week to 3.

Also, I do 6 cardio sessions a week and 3 strength training sessions a week.
