Lately i have been addicted to this sandwich i discovered myself. A very simple one but tastes so unique and fills my stomache. Like today, i had it for lunch and dinner, yet havent got bored with it. Most probably because the taste is so good, that's when it struck me, food that tastes good cannot be low in calorie(or atleast that's my theory ). Anyway, it would be great if anyone can help count how many calories this sandwich might be? Here's the ingredients:
Per serving:
2 Slice of Wholemeal Bread (According to the label it's 128cal)
4-6 leafs of Lettuce(Yummy!)
1 Onion
1 Tomato
1 tablespoon of Mayo (the label says 14grams is 90 calorie)
2-3 tablespoon of tomato ketchup
Thank you!

| Just add up the calories in each of the ingredients. Is it 128 calories for 2 slices or 1 slice of the bread? Check out any calorie-counting website to find out how many calories are in each ingredient (excpet for things like the bread and mayo, since you already know how many calories are in those--I would think the ketchup would tell you on the label as well) and then add them up. Hardly any calories in the veggies!
Don't forget that this website also has a Food Calories & Nutrition Calculator

| Hmm, my calculation is about 350cal. Is that too low for lunch or dinner? Usually i have an apple after a meal. Last edited on 16 Sep 2006 05:05 am by StereoType

| As for whether or not 350 calories is enough for lunch or dinner, it depends! It depends on how many times you eat throughout the day and how many calories you consume otherwise throughout the day. If you eat 5-6 times a day (as many people suggest eating every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism fired up for weight loss), then it may be plenty, but if you only eat 3 meals a day, then it may not be enough (but again, it depends on how many calories you eat at your other meals). It's all very highly individual. Last edited on 11 Jan 2007 05:06 am by

You are Male, 1.7m, 21 and 92kg. Your (unadjusted) RMR works out at 1883. If you do no exercise at all, your maintenance calories are around 2260. You shouldn't go any lower than 1883 a day. If you go lower, you risk slowing down your metabolism (and hence stalling your weight loss - and you've already said that this has happened to you! you shouldn't be eating as little as 1000 calories as you said you have been). You also risk losing muscle. Please read this topic: What It Takes to Lose It All
To increase your calorie deficit you should instead be increasing your activity/exercise.
Is 350 too little for a meal? Ideally you should have 6 small meals a day. 1883/6 = 314 calories - so that sandwich is ideal for one of those small meals. It wouldn't be ideal if you were just planning on having 3 meals a day [which isn't an ideal number of meals to have in any event].
