Okay, I have two different dressings in my fridge. One low fat has 70 cal, 1 gram of sugar, 7 carbs, and 4.5 grams of fat.  The other is non-fat it has 50 cal, 5 grams of sugar, 12 carbs, and 0 fat.  So which one is better to use. The 4.5fat or the 5 grams of sugar.

Personally I'd go for the 50 cal one - because it has less calories. Neither refined oils nor refined sugar are nutrient-dense so both dressings are "empty calories" so I hope you're not using too much. If you're not using much then it doesn't matter which you use. You could always use spices instead of dressings. Or lemon juice. My English Mustard is 170 kcal per 100g but it is so strong that I'm guaranteed to be using a very small amount!

I am not a expert on salad dressings but my opinion on the low fat is crazy. In the past I was a size 22 ! and went down to a size 9/10 Then I got pregnant HA HA  but anyway you need some fat in your diet or you are going to look like a old prune DID'NT mean you by the way, But all I did was eat right fruit ,veg ,fish ,chicken and lean meat  and drank lots of water and never did I cut back on butter, oils or salad dressings just had it  in moderation Same as diet soda I would have a regular one the diet soda is loaded with sodium maybe I only had 1 or 2 a week but I had a good one if I wanted one

In my opinion, most people get enough fat in their diet without even trying - with the exception of omega-3 essential fatty acids. (which are generally not found in salad dressings - they are found in fish, fish-oils, and certain nuts and seeds). If you suspect you're not getting enough fat, perhaps you could supplement with these (and not with salad dressing, which is likely to have omega 6 vegetable oil which most of us have too much of in our diet!).

Are you saying that you don't like reduced-fat dressings? I guess that, as Jennifer is asking the question, we can ask her if she prefers one  dressing to the other.

Are you saying that 100ml of Diet Coke has more sodium than 100ml of Coke? Interesting, but can you supply the figures?

yes I do not like calorie reduced anything really I just want to learn how to eat healthy and in moderation and not to deprive myself then go crazy at 10 oclock at night and have everything I see and yes diet soda has more sodium then regular soda a diabetic nutrionist told me that 10 years ago and said if you want a pop have a regular one but not 2 or 3 a day and as far as oils I have flaxseed oil on my salad mixed with honey mustard and I have soya margarine all in moderation.

Thanks for everyone's coments. But now I am not so worry about it because a girlfriend of mine has taught me a different way to eat salads.. I am so excited about this I love it.  You dip the fork in the dressing then stick it with the salad.  It is great because you don't drown the veggies with dressing. And you get a taste of dressing with every bite.  And the best is you don't barely use any dressing which means I can have regular, lite, or non fat!!!

Odd, but interesting!

I like dressing with every bit, too. Ain't no :rabbit:.

One thing I learned it that it's better to toss a salad than pour dressing over it. When you pour some on and it just covers the top it doesn't hack it for me. So I'd pour a LOT!

You can toss it with just a little and get some on all of it.

There are spray-on dressings on the market now. The calorie content/volume is measured by the number of spritzes. You can get flavor on every bite without drowning your salad.

Personally, I get my dressing on the side and I consume a measured amount. I dip a forkful into the dressing just enough to get the flavor. I also look for dressings made with olive oil, canola oil or flaxseed oil as these are healthier oils. Stay away from corn oil. I go for fresh ground pepper, too if that's an option.
