Afraid I don't have Yahoo messenger......I'm not really following any diet - just sort of cutting out chocolate, sweets etc.... and watching how many calories I am eating....

wish i had the willpower to do that. i start off well but soon slide. yahoo messenger is totaly free to download and use, even if you are not computer minded (dont mean to be cheeky, you probaly a wizaed at it) its very easy, it pracatly does it its self. As you have probably realized i love to chat. One of my biggest problems is that i have bags and bags of spare time, loads of time to myself (i do work fulltime) tell you about that later, (if you want to be talk to death). so that means loads and loads of time to eat. what do you do when you get the urge to eat and you are not hungary ?

I did used to have Yahoo messenger but dh said it interfered with something, or other, on our computer and uninstalled it....
When I feel like eating I usually drink some water, go for a walk with the dog, have an apple....something like that - I quit smoking in February and at first just ate whatever I fancied, I got weighed last week and realised I was heavier than I had ever been so decided to cut out all the junk food.....even eating healthy stuff I seem to consume quite a few calories..lol...today has been my lowest at around 1500.

well done for packing in smoking, JB my husband packed in a year ago and he has put on 1 stone, but he was thin so he could afford to put on a bit of weight, i have a dog too, a boxer called tara, i should really take her out more. In fact i think i will. I have just recieved a email from peter, i guess he must be the boss around here ? he must monitor messages being posted, he says, if we want to chat on a regular basis, he can set up a forum just foe us, and other who want to join in of course, he also says he can make me a pig avator, very nice of him i thought. well i must go now, as every night i am off work, i go and help my friend put her husband to bed, as he has MS. I will check in tomorrow and see how you doin, exuce me for maybe being a litle personal, but do you work or are you around during the day, ( god that does sound personal sos) just so i now when you are likely to be around. i work permanent night-shift on a 7 0n 7 0ff basis, off untik fri night, then work through till following fri morning, then off till following fri night, and just continue on like that. Its been fab chatting to you, hope to chat agoian, have a good night

Hi JO
I only work a couple of days a week as I have two young children.....I can always pop in and out of the forum as I am home most of the day.......
I suppose we could set up a thread where we could chat. I got the private message thing threw but not really sure how to use it - I will have a look.
Haven't had too many calories today, but have had two glasses of wine - alcohol is my downfall I think.
Will look out for you tomorrow....

Hi there,
I'm new too! I've read all through the site and think this is a great tool to help me reach my goal. I've got about 60 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight and it's not easy!!! It was easy for the first few years cause I blamed it on baby weight gain, but can't do that anymore, she'll be 10 this month :P
I've been drinking lots of water and eating my fruits and veggies which I like anyways, just trying to cut out the fast food, etc......oh yeah and I've begun exercising. I've bought a Leslie Sansone DVD so hopefully I'll stick to it.
Any advice anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

If you really want to lose weight they you do not ever have to worry about failure.
Sometimes I get the cravings and end up ordering a pizza, going out drinking, or eating fast food. I, however, do not feel guilty when I make the mistake of eating junk food because i know that I have made a life change. I just see it as a reason to eat more healthy the next day and the next day.
It took me several times to come up with this attitude. The old me would try a diet for a few weeks then cheat and give it up all together. Now when I cheat I just see it as a SPEED BUMP rather than falling off of a CLIFF.
I see myself as a sort of "recovering food junkie". I have been clean for about 39 days now eating whole foods, soups, wild rice, veggies, fruits, real butter (in moderation), and lots of V8.
This is the longest I have watched what I ate. I never have hunger because I eat plenty of good food.
I keep a diet log (even of the stuff I am not supposed to eat) and make sure that no matter what I eat I can put it into some kind of perspective. In the last 39 days I have lost 8 pounds and I never want to go back to the old way again. I see my friends drink mountain dew and eat an entire back of chips and it makes me sick thinking about it.

Ben, you have a great attitude about handling this life-long problem. Unfortunately most people are always looking at a specif weight loss over a specific period of time.
Not that goals can't be helpful... but with your attitude you can look at a "slip" in your food plan as something tiny over the long haul... rather than something so huge that you end up giving up until the next time you try to "diet" again.
Congrats!
Peter

Veronica,
After many years of struggling with obesity, I have found that exercise is absolutely necessary. I know you said that you have a goal of 60 lbs., so the word exercise probably doesn't sound to good right now. I not only use it for calorie burning, but as a form of punishment when I get out of line. That's the great thing about this site, you can pick the penalty! You eat an extra slice of pizza.... your own court finds you guilty and sentences you to a 3 mile walk. It sounds childish, but I can't even begin to tell you how overeating doesn't look so great when you know the price your going to pay. I'll also tell you that pre-made meals are a great way to keep yourself from eating the wrong foods. I cook my entire lunches for the week on Sunday afternoons. It's all pre-measured . Lunch time comes and there's no excuse, you get no more and no less. You can actually do that for all your days meals. I'm naturally a fast eater, so knowing that I can only eat what's in the container makes me slow down and really enjoy it instead of shoveling it in and thinking that it wasn't enough when I'm done. I've kept over 50 lbs. off for over 3 years now, but the old habits knock at the door frequently. That's why I don't like the word diet because it has always made me think that there would be an end. There is no end, so finding a better lifestyle is the answer. Nothing too radical, remember you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life. Sorry to sound so profetic, but it is the truth. Good luck to you!
Tom

Thanks for the advice Tom.
I've been having oatmeal and a banana in the morning and a hefty sandwich in the afternoon for lunch, lite bread with either tuna, chicken or turkey with lots of redleaf lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, cucumber and tomatos. I've given up chips and now have baby carrots with ranch dressing (I'll work on that later), a jalapeno pepper and either a diet coke or water. The water is the hardest thing for me to do because I'd rather chew ice then drink water but when I think of it as a "flush" system then it's easier. Good thing is that I love fruits and veggies, I just have to make the time to prepare them. But so far dinner has been an "anything" goes, but I do watch my portions.
Question, what do you have when you're really craving somthing sweet. I do Jello or fruit, but that get tiresome. I was thinking of making some smoothies and freezing them as it's so hot here even in the eveniings. I live in So. Cal.
