The reasons to consider fasting have more to do with the need to detoxify your digestive system and your internal organs, purging them of some of the nasty waste products that have been collecting there over time. During a fast, the body will begin to feast on these waste products, and they will be expunged from your system as the body will finally have a chance to work on them.

I agree jauadbin. Fasting coupled with other techniques does help to cleanse/detoxify your system. If you do it on a small level every day (ie Intermittent Fasting) it can help you to lose weight on a consistent basis. It's worked well for me.

But I heard that if you eat after a very long period of time.....anything you eat gets converted to fat. Is that true? Or else why do people ay that you must eat regularly?

I wrote a report on this very topic a few years ago, I swear I am going to look it up and post it. I agree,fasting cleans your system helps maintain a good physical, spiritual, and intellectual ballance, and it adds a glow and shine to your skin.

if you never fasted before start with a fruit & water fast, to it for once a week for two weeks, then your toxin levels should be leveled off enough to begin a 24 hour water fast, try this once a week for two weeks, after that you will be able to do 24 hour dry fast, and you can get away with doing this once a week or twice a month.

Fasting has many advantages as well as dis advantages too.Some times fasting makes you weak and you cant concentrate on anything you do.

Obviously if you're going to be fasting for 24 hours - it will leave you with an extended period of calorie abstinence and this will play a big role in your goal of losing a stone. This combined with some strategic exercise will ensure consistent results.
