Hi there!:)

Okay, so I am an 18 year old female living in South Africa.
I'm quiet tall so I guess my weight isn't like omw you really need to loose weight, infact I get complimented a lot about my body, even though I don't buy it one bit at times. But I really need to feel comfortable with my weight, with which I'm currently not very comfortable with.

I've been on and off diets since like 7th grade but have only gained weight since then, seeing that I tend to overeact with diets and then end up binging. I tend to binge from time to time and I think it's really contributed to my weight gain over the years.

I want to be about 56kg (currently about 72kg) by my birthday next year in june. And I know what I wanna be and look like for my body, height and frame, so please don't try to convince me otherwise.

Oh and I must add... my weight loss plan will focus mainly on food intake changes and not so much exercise (I exercise every now and then and have a fairly active lifestyle though) since I dont want to have a musculine frame...not that I do, but I'm thinking that I might have over done it with the exercise which contributed to an increae in body muscle and hence body mass...but I could be sooooo wrong lol.

I guess I need a diet buddy to motivate me, cause I feel as though I can loose weight if I want to, but with everyone telling me no I'm fine the way I am, I use it as an excuse to just eat, infact binge sometimes, when I'm at that point in my dieting where I feel like I just want to quit dieting. So I need an extra reason to just keep me going and not give up.

It doesn't really matter where you're from, but I just need someone to motivate me, encourage me, and share ideas and personal progress with regarding weight loss. We can communicate through email or another alternative.

Thanks:)

How did you select 56kg as a goal weight? Have you ever been this weight since becoming 5'10"? Do you know what BMI you will be if you were 56kg? Do you know the lowest BMI that is not considered underweight? Do you know the lowest weight that will make you not underweight?

By the way the answer to the last question is 58.5kg.

Have you heard of skinny-fat? it is a problem that affects some people who keep going up and down, they still look fat rather than toned even at at lower weight. The solution is to develop more muscle. Yet confusingly you say that you have too much muscle? Some people are afraid of getting too much muscle. Only a very small minority of women can naturally/easily build more muscle than they would like.

Hi Nir

Thanks for taking your time to reply. To answer your question, I didn't really use any special technique to get to 56kg as a goal, it was merely a rough estimate. I must admit 56kg is a little far fetched for someone my height. My ideal weight is actually 58kg, but I tend to aim further than my goal just incase I fall short of it, in which case I would still be in close range with my ideal goal. Also I feel 58kg sounds just to close to 60 which one can consider alot for a female my age.

Also could you tell me a little more about the skinny-fat condition. Oh and I might not have been clear with reagards to my physic... I'm not muscular at all, infact I'm far from that. I simply had a theory that in my attempt to loose weight, I might have developed more muscle seeing that I was never fat or overweight to start of with (yeah I had my moments where I wanted to loose weight fast and might have over exercised for succesive periods of time). The reason I say this is that I really don't look my weight at all and even though the scale says I've put on weight, it doesn't really look like it. I guess it could also be due to the fact that it would take a significant increase in weight for one to actually notice it when dealing with a tall person. And you're right I've worried about getting too much muscle since I don't want to look like a female body builder specially with my height, not that I have anything wrong against them. And also since I'm not flabby at all I don't want to develop to much muscle in my attempt to loose weight healthily.

Thanks for your time

basically "too much muscle" and "skinny fat" are at two different extremes.

if you look at one pound of fat and one pound of muscle: muscle is very dense and therefore compact - fat is fluffy and occupies a lot more space.

Unfortunately when people go up and down with their weight a lot, they tend to lose muscle on the way down but gain fat on the way up (especially when they don't weight-train enough and don't eat enough protein etc.) so the end result could be someone where the scale said they were a normal or slim weight but in fact they would have a high body fat percentage, they would be able to squeeze a lot of fat when pinching themselves.

Generally speaking muscle takes a lot of effort both to get and to maintain (that is for most people anyway - and you would likely already know if you were the exception). In other words if I didn't keep up training with weights 2 to 3 times a week then my muscle will all be gone in a short while (weeks or months) because there will be little reason for it to hang around!

One concern females have is that if they are fat and they build up some muscle as well in the same area (say the quads or the glutes) then they will look "bulky" - well refer back to the suggestion above that fat takes up more space (I think I read 5 times more space? that might be the wrong number though) the solution is to still aim for muscle - but also not to forget to lose excess fat.

If you work with weights and develop muscle you don't like it will be very easy to lose it (through inaction)
