I cant seem to work this food thing out for the life of me.. i eat what i feel to be healthy and then ya go read something somewhere on the net or in a book or someone tells you "eating that isnt good for you" At the moment my delemna is with Honey. Is it good for you, or not?? I put it on my Oatmeal every morning, thinking it was better for me than raw sugar.. Am i disillusioned or am i doing the right thing? I know people say meat is bad and some say its good, and others say eggs are bad for you, others say they are good, and cheese, same same.. and usually i can deal with it, because all those things i dont have every day.. but the honey, well i have it everyday on me breakfast :| .. so, i kinda wonder if i should go back to raw sugar or just simply change my cereal altogether .. the reason i love the oatmeal is because its quick, easy and full of fibre.. without the honey tho, its yuck..
thanks for the help in advance.. blessings and sunshine..

If the choice is between honey and raw sugar, I'd go with the honey. Actually, I do go with the honey at least 3-4 days a week.
On the minus side, traces of not so great substances (heavy metals, pesticides and antibiotics, road tar) have been found in it. It's pricier, but I'm more comfortable using organic honey to reduce these trace elements.
On plus side, natural honey causes a significantly lower rise in blood sugar and has health benefits not found in sugar such as antioxidants (one unique to honey) and flavonoids.
I don't know if this helps or confuses the issue for you:).

Back in the '70s I had a friend who was what we then called a "health nut." Funny, it was a common term then. Now I'd call him smart.
Anyway, his whole family was into eating natural foods and so they'd talk with distain about sugar but put honey on everything. The catch is that they ate such healthy foods that they were all thin and didn't have to worry about weight.
I think honey is just another form of sugar and should be considered "empty calories," meaning that it offers very little nutrition.
Look at sugar, and then honey, here:
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
Look at Value per 100 Grams
You will see that honey has some vitamins and minerals absent in sugar.

| For the most part there are no "good" or "bad" foods. Everything should be eaten in moderation. A little honey will not hurt anyone, and might help you to eat other healthy foods, like your oatmeal. Go for it, just watch how much you put on because it is sugar and full of calories.

I don't eat honey coz it's hi glycemic like sugar. I use brown rice syrup in place of honey and that way I don't get those crazy highs and lows that sugar gives me. But then I tend to eat the whole jar . As stated above, moderation (not a common word in MY life ) is key, and if it's not bothering you, a drizzle a day can't be that bad.
Also, no sweetner at all and half a mashed very ripe banana makes oatmeal tasty...throw in a few raisens...maybe some walnuts...dash of cinnamon....mm mm m.

I have tried it with other things and was no good, still wanted the honey. I dont get highs and lows .. i find eating 5 or 6 times a day fixes that problem right up .. Hmm might try with the banana tho.. I have decided to change and swap my breakfast meal thru the week so that i have a variety.. theres three quick breakfasts i like .. they are .... Sultana Bran with no fat milk.. Oatmeal with honey.... and (my own invention) Lite icecream, No Fat milk, Two tblespns Protein Powder, and half a cup of raspberries.. in the blender, buzz buzz.. and wella! One healthy smoothie!!
That way i dont have the honey every single day.. *smiles*
Thanks to those that have helped me out with the honey thing, i tend to get a bit paranoid at times.. its the eccentric side of me .. :P
blessings..
