Hi guys me again lol, How many calories a day am i supposed to have?
Im 6ft 1 and 23 stone, I need to know the r.d.a so i can get moe advice on how much i should undercut it for me to lose weight...MANY THANKS!

As I suggested in the other topic, I recommend you aim for about 1900 calories. Whilst this is technically under your 'unadjusted RMR' (which is about 2500), this is not a problem for you because you are carrying a lot of excess fat at this time (BMI 42.5). I know that you are interested in optimal (faster) results and that is why I recommend that number.

You could still eat a bit more than 1900 on occasion and still lose.

If you consistently eat below 1900, you will likely be in trouble, but if it happens rarely every now and again it is no big deal.

yea, go online and find a few BMR calculators and put in your information.  They'll all give you a different amount, but take an avg and that's a decent estimate.  Nir's estimate is probably good.  Problem is, this will be a slow weight loss, not anything crazy fast.  You need to create a bigger deficit to lose the fat more quickly.  So see how the 1900 cals does for you for a few weeks and if you're losing weight quickly, great, if not, you'll need to shoot for less calories.

Hey Grangers TBH i was gonna aim lower than 1900 maybe 1400 i know i will be able to do it as i have the willpower, i will give it the same respect as i did to quitting smoking (hence the weight gain lol)
So although every bit of advice i have received here is FANTASTIC i am going to follow yours as i want to lose weight as fast as possible....And cut the calorie intake down
infact starting tomorrow i am going to count how many calories i consume using the foods im going to eat during my weight loss diet and i will see from there how many i can undercut from the 1900

The question is - just how "crazy fast" does it need to be?

Your unadjusted RMR 2500, if you were sedentary 2500x1.2=3000.

If you eat at 1900, that's 3000-1900=1100 (so predict 2.2lb/week loss just from that)

Now on top of that you also cycle 80-100 miles a week. You are 320lb. This will burn some calories. You should probably use an appropriate calculator and it will help to know your speed. Rough estimate 6000-8000 calories burnt. That's another 2lb/week from the cycling.

So ballpark 4lb/week representing more than 1% of your weight. Is that not "crazy fast" enough?

Are you serious?
At 320lbs you're gonna be mighty disappointed with your skin suit after losing weight that quickly.
In addition, if your willpower is that great then why the weight gain in the first place? I don't mean to be sarcastic but you simply traded one addiction for another and are setting yourself up for failure looking for unrealistic results.

Well raven if you read my previous reply to Nir's post you will see it reads WAS HOPING for  7-8 lbs minimum, So as for swapping 1 addiction for another i agree but i can only deal with 1 at a time. And at that time smoking was my priority addiction that needed to be rid of, and i had to feel comfortable to quit before i gave up, so now i have been rid of smoking for over 17 months, Its time to tackle my other addiction (FOOD)  and like i have stated several timesi have no clue about weight loss (thats why i joined this forum) So although i was HOPING for 7-8lbs i have taken everyones advice on board and although my aim is 7-8lbs it wont neccesarily happen, so as long as i lose something whether it be 1lb or 10lbs i will be happy its a loss, Nothing wrong with aiming high!

I have read your previous replies as well as other posts. It just seems your expectatons are going to lead to failure since you have them set so high.

Slow and steady will get you there in a manner that is sustainable and maintainable in the long run.

I enjoy biking as well. I do both road and all mountain. As your weight comes off keep an eye on your appetite. I have noticed my body wants more calories now that I am considerably leaner than I was.
