Sweating does not burn more calories

If it did, people would go to the sauna instead of working out.

however, assuming you're not working out in a hot room or wearing a plastic bag or more layers than you need, then sweating (and heavy breathing etc.) can be used as approximate indicators of how hard you are working out (if you do not have gadgets like heart rate monitors etc.)

if anything you do makes your workout uncomfortable and as a result you do it less intensely or for less time then you have obviously sabotaged yourself

and whilst we're at it, if anything you do specifically to lose weight fast makes you actually give up altogether (as compared to doing something more sensible) then again it wasn't worth it.

Ask yourself if there is any part of your plan (be it eating or exercising) that you are not sure if you could continue with for the rest of your life, if you find anything that may be a red flag.

Hi Nir, I genuinely have no clue when it comes to weight loss, I wear a plastic bag while cycling as i thought because the body is approx 70% water that maybe sweating it out would be good. I will cycle for as long as the legs hold out. i cycle roughly about 80-100 miles a week across multiple types of terrain and with lots of hills included in the route, For a large man (approx 23 stone) i do extremely well, but i would love to be able to know what foods i should be eating and avoiding. BBut im really glad ive found this forum because i know i will find the answers im looking for

some people will tell you that "a calorie is a calorie" so that it essentially makes no difference what you eat as long as you count accurately.

This is mostly true but at the same time your food choices are important. Isn't that a contradiction? Yes it is, but it does make sense.

1) some foods are healthier than others and most of us end up caring about our health (even if initially we only care about looking good)

2) a subset of people are adversely affected by insulin and find it helpful to cut out anything with refined sugar/syrup and/or grains (like wheat-flour, corn-flour etc.)

3) some foods (=veg beans fruit) tend to fill you up - you can eat a large amount for relatively few calories - they make it easy to stick to a lower calorie target

4) some people find it helpful to periodically eat a small portion of their unhealthy favourite foods whilst other people tend to be de-railed by this experience (so find out what kind of person you are)

educate yourself = read = here are a couple of resources

1) :cph: tutorial

2) http://body-improvements.com/resources/eat/

there is no special food out there that will help you lose weight.  No reason to stop the cycling as long as it is not making you eat more than you need.  As long as you eat in a deficit (no matter what you're eating) this will bring about the weight loss you're looking for.  If you have a lot of fat to lose, this is the approach to take.  If you're down to the last 5-10 pounds, then we'd need to go about it a bit differently.

Mr. Nir sounds funny but and so trutfull...
even though I can say that paying attention what you eat ( type of food), how much you eat and how often + having a sport routine programm will really decrease your weight dramatically.
remember : "Eat the breakfast, share the lunch with your friend and give the dinner to your enemy"

In a round about way sweating burns calories. The latent cooling of evaporation causes the body to lose heat and drinking water burns calories.

Wearing a plastic suit does not enhance calorie burning. It probably hinders it and it is dangerous.

I think you could benefit from visiting the Tough Love forum.

If you want to lose weight as fast as possible, DON'T EAT! but that would be stupid. The rule of thumb is; lose no more than one pound per week per 100 pounds of weight. Lose more than that and you risk getting gallbladder disease and sagging skin.

Have to agree with you there - loose skin is a real annoyance. If you can avoid it, I would.

Hehe BTW: If you ask a cyclist "why don't you just ride 100 miles" We'd probably want to - I'd definitely do it if I could talk somebody into joining me in the road trip!

If you like cycling why not introduce a couple of 'spinning' classes into your weekly routine.

They will help you to burn a lot of calories and improve your overall fitness.

Also having someone constantly encouraging you help push your body further than if you were cycling alone.

What type of food to eat on a diet is a really good questions!

As you change your lifestyle, it is really hard to give up your favorite foods.  I pretty much have to hold a gun to my own head to stay away from pizza.

On one hand, if you can eat some of these favorite foods in moderation, you can stay on your diet.  I have been successful at limiting myself to one slice of really good cheese pizza on the nights I really need my pizza fix.

On the other hand, your body will tell you when you eat something wrong; there is nothing worse than a food hangover.  As time goes on, you will learn what is best for you.
