The best diet is one that provides all the nutrients the body requires and does it without over fueling the body.

The best weight loss plan is one that provides all the nutrients the body requires and restricts calories in a safe and incremental manner. Anything else is BS!

The problem is that many of these weight loss plans that provide all the nutrients the body needs is that they are boring to those of us that that have been fighting our weight our whole lives.  If we try to cold-turkey one of these plans our motivation won't last and we will fail.

I suggest that you find a weight loss plan where the food choices actually look exciting to you,  whether or not they are totally nutritional.  As you lose weight in this marathon event, you will eventually come to the point where you can start eating a better choice of food.  This will keep your motivation up and will be better for you in the long run!

That's the exact wrong thing. Food is not supposed to be exciting or entertainment. The purpose of food is to provide nutrition.

Reeducating the palate is as simple as making the effort to substitute real food for junk food.

I don't think fatlings can be weaned off Doritos.

as someone whose eating now mirrors the "after" picture and clearly was the "before" picture in the past, and not withstanding that I am a perfectionistic all-or-nothing person who would have loved to transition in one step from a rubbish diet to the healthiest one, in reality it was still a series of adjustments and changes over time.

It was probably a learning process.

Here is how to stop a perfectionist from being a perfectionist. Perfection is a myth.

If you adhere to a sensible diet that gradually cuts calories there is not reason for why you can't lose the weight and reform your eating habits.

I agree with JSABD. I'm in the process of losing weight and I  am very close to my goal weight now. I only have about 40 more punds to lose out of the 165 pounds that I had to lose at the beginning of my journey. My firtst few diet plans like weight watchers and atkins and all of these insane cleanses and other things like that worked for s short time but of course I just fell back into my old ways. Recently I've learned it's doesn't have to be about being on a diet until you lose the weight or until you fill you're done. It's about changing your lifestyle. I use to eat emotionally but now whenever I get upset I hit the gym and it works ten times better. I choose healthy foods over the fattening foods. I can't stand the sight of junk food. It's not about your 'diet plan' it's about changing the way you percieve and use food. Like JSABD said food isn't for entertainment, it's for nutrient and fuel and that is it. Using it otherwise is completely wrong and as soon as people realize this obesity will go down.

You're completely right becoming_myself. I am happy for you that you are near to reach your goal. And that's a very big achievement, you know, it's very hard to lose weight if you're not dedicated enough to do such.

Thank You jeetkun! It was a very long and hard process to get where I am today and I know it's not going to get easier. I still have a long road ahead of me but I'm positive I can get there and that I'll remain happy and healthy

You're right. But I am positive you can do it. Have you tried some exercises during your weight loss process?

Yes I do a lot of running. I can now run over 2 miles without stopping which is something I've never been able to do. I co weight traing and cardio. On weekends I try to do cardio in the mornings and weights in the afternoon (I do a run before each of these) and on weekdays I alternate between the two.

I agree that food is fuel, but there's nothing wrong with getting excited about it.  My husband makes amazing Italian dinners (usually really healthy and vegetarian), and I can't wait to eat them!  I not only get excited that it's good for me, which makes it easier to eat controlled portions, but I get excited about how good its going to taste .  My husband taught me to be passionate about food in a good way.  And really, there are not a lot of obese people in Italy, so go figure!

That's because Italians are generally not gluttons like Americans and Brits.

I think the best diet is an egg in the morning and vegetables in the evening.  This way you have your protein and nutrients.  For vegetables I use broccoli, carrots, peas, and cauliflower.

The only problems I find are sticking to the diet.  I always end up eating something else.  I just need to find a way to stick to this diet.  I exercise a lot and the more I exercise, the easier I find it is to stick to this diet.

The best diets have a variety of low cal healthy food and exclude high cal nutreint deficient foods.

Aim for .5 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.
