Is it really any more appropriate to say this is the image of health, and then turn around and bash skinny models? I mean, one of the main criteria of modelling is being skinny. It's because a) slim women are easier on the eyes, b) it cuts down on fabric costs, and c) the clothes wear the diminuitive model, putting the emphasis on the fashion rather than the girl. Do you really think this is any more inspirational than having an anorexic on the runway? How about healthy, fit, normal sized models, instead of emaciated or obese? Think Victoria's Secret. Toned and fit- muscles to go with their (healthy, not jutting) bones- and enough curves to satisfy a men's desires. Just because collarbones show, or even your ribcage... I mean, I see collarbones on fat girls sometimes. If all you are is skin and bones, you need to hit the gym and up your intake of whole foods. If you are a whale, eat less, move more. And don't be afraid of letting a few bones show, much to the dismay of your fat friends. They will call you anorexic when they can see your elbows and knees for crying out loud, but that doesn't mean that YOU have the problem. They are just typical, jealous fat girls. There is nothing unhealthy about seeing your bones, so long as that isn't all you can see. And now, for our plus-sized treats... Don't tell me you look and these and don't think right away 'She might actually be pretty if she weren't fat.' These women have pretty faces, but they are sick as far as their bodies go. Sick, and dying, just as much as the models who fall below a 17.5 BMI. ![]() ![]() ![]() QUIT KIDDING YOURSELVES! ![]() |

This glorifies an unhealthy and decadent lifestyle. It sends a horrible message to our kids. |

Girl #2 has a freak show hair and makeup going on, but her figure looks pleasantly hourglassy. Maybe the corset is pulling her in, but I don't see anything wrong with her. |

Oh yeah. I forgot. Size 10 is plus sized. No wonder she's included. |

Crystal Renn was pretty heavy at that time. She might not look as bad as the others do, but she is also wearing a very tight corset. She has a great figure, but she is definately overweight in that picture, she was a size 14 I believe. She's lost a ton of weight now. Apparently, she used to be anorexic, then went into recovery and gained weight, but after the backlash of her plus-sized career, she slimmed down again. She claims she is healthy now, and she hasn't dropped back to her anorexic look, but who knows what will happen with her. The point was more that the particular fashion show she was walking in, in that picture, was glorifying being overweight. She was the least of the problem, I couldn't find the pictures of the other models. The man who ran the show made them dress in clothes that were meant for regular models. It was bad. That was probably the one flattering garment worn by anyone there. I think it's a size 8 UK and above that is plus sized in the modelling world. Basically anything other than the standard size for models is plus size. That said, people aren't meant to compare themselves to model standards, unless they are aspiring to be one. I'm a size 6 US, 10 UK, and I know I'm definately plus size by model standards, but I'm pretty sure I'm healthy otherwise. We needn't compare ourselves to the fashion world which considers model Coco Rocha to be fat. ![]() This is model-fat. Last edited on 25 Aug 2011 07:30 pm by McBalls |

I think that's because it would be different for everyone. To say everyone who eats right and exercises will reach their goal weight within 'X' amount of time would be a lie. Slow but steady wins the race though. The longer you take to lose the weight, making appropriate lifestyle changes along the way, the better chances you have of keeping it off. If you crash diet and lose 20 lbs, you'll gain it all back and probably more because your body will not only be a little confused, but you'll retain water as most of the weight lost was probably mostly water and muscle anyway. Crash dieting leads to skinny-fat. I have first hand experience in this. Lift weights, eat 90% clean, and drink a bunch of water. You will do fine. |
