I'm curious, I'd like to see what your vision is here.

1.What differences do you see in the US if obesity rates went back to the rates you saw in the 70's? The 40's?

2.If given the power , would you make obesity illegal? How would you penalize it?

Those are some tough questions.  A lower obesity rate would create a more productive and healthier society. It is my belief that obesity is symptom of a morally bankrupt society. I think we would have a greater sense of community if the same forces were in place that were in place in 40 years ago. Today it is I me my and mine. It took 911 to bring this country together and that didn't last long and two of the biggest dividers were that fat boy Glenn Back and that other fat drug addict Rush Limbaugh.

Greedy gluttony is what America is now. The America I love no longer exists.

I would not make it illegal per se  but I would go after fat parents who fatten their kids and I would put fat pregnant girls in jail so that they would only be allowed to eat healthy food.

Let's say there were a draft. (There should be) Fat boys and rich boys would be in deep trouble. Fat boys would need to be locked up and slimmed down Marine style.

You can't legislate morality and since gluttony is a moral failing there isn't much governments can do about in a free society.

I would change divorce laws so that the fat spouse would have to pay the costs if the cause of the divorce is gluttony.

Maybe a fat tax on junk food although I don't like regressive taxes.

I support an employer's right to discriminate against fatling and smokers.

If I were a dictator asses would get kicked.

I would order troops to destroy and kill corporate gangsters like Monsanto, Cargill, the FDA and most of the big pharma.

I would forbid doctors from treating the co-morbidities of obesity in adults. People who choose food over health will not be enabled by medical treatment.

I would allow only wholesome food to be purchased with food stamps.

I would out law most WLS.

No woman's sizes bigger than a size 6.

National harpoon day where people in the fat acceptance community are fair game to be harpooned and their blubber rendered like that of a whale. I would legalize land whaling.

I think you forgot one other corporate criminal that should be drawn and quartered - Sysco.http://www.chefann.com/blog/archives/602

They feed both prisons and supply school lunches. I can't even go into detail about the cost cutting garbage they feed children, because i get too angry. Jamie Oliver versus them and the USDA was David versus Goliath.

I agree with you on the food stamp issue. I used to work in a grocery store and I notice what people bought while I was bagging. I'd love to see something like "Jamie's kitchen" available though-people don't even don't know how to cook rice anymore!

Personally, I was really hoping with people stuck between high gas prices and the awful economy we'd see a bike boom like in the 70's

I may forward this to MeMe Roth. Corporate food is never a good thing. Corporations have ruined this country.

JS,
Rather than Hapoon day (smirk)how about something a bit more useful?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26430304/ns/technology_and_science-innovation/t/gym-little-sweat-goes-long-way/

The article is about a gym that uses spin bikes to supply a portion of the electricity to power lights in the gym. Sounds like a win-win to me.

I did some calculations about energy. Human fat contains as much energy per pound as fuel oil.  Since there is no end in sight to the obesity epidemic it seems that we have a renewable domestic source for energy. We could siphon off on average 30 pound of fat per year from millions of obese Americans. We could put a significant dent in our dependance on foreign oil.

Human fat rendered to bio-diesel may not ever catch on. But it is a plausible source of fuel for the future. If correctly regulated, the dangers of harvesting human fat for fuel can be limited. Yet whether the moral issues of this topic will ever be resolved is another thing entirely.

Really? That's kind of awesome - I'm actually carrying a fuel can around with me and burning it up as I go.

I have GOT to figure out one more all day bike trip before the weather really goes bad. I finally got Hubs semi- interested in bicycle travel/camping for next year, so I have an excuse to go scouting for routes....Thanks!

Cross country skiing and alpine walking are great exercise.
