I am looking for the old weight watchers 7 day meal plans with food exchanges that were used around 1985.  I used this meal plan after I had my second child.  It worked great for me back then and it was so easy to follow.  I would just put my meal plan on the frig for the week and mark off my foods as i ate them.  I have tried the points system but it just doesnt work for me.  The old plan was a healthier way of eating.  I have gotten older and have gained quite a lot of weight.  I am expecting two grandchildren soon (which will may a total of 6)  and i would like to start with the old plan in order to lose some weight and to be able to play with my new grandchildren.  I would appreciate any help in finding these old ww meal exchange plans or if any one could send me a copy of them.  I think there were 4 weeks plus a maintenance plan.

Hi there
I read your post and it was like you were reading my mind.  I have been looking for the old 1980's weight loss program from weight watchers and didn't have any luck until this morning. Someone posted the following:Protein 4 (70 calories each), Milk 2(90 cal. each), Bread 4(80 cal each), Fat 2(40 cal each), Veggies 3 (unlimited if non starchy), Fruit 2 (60 cal each).  You also had the option of choosing 7 floaters (weekly) from any of the food groups as well as 750 optional calories.

I do remember this, however, I am having trouble remembering the tracking sheet.  I do remember it was a sheet that was extremely helpful.

So after this find today I am now hopeful I can marry this up perhaps with the Canada food guide for portions.

Good luck to you.

Hi, I'm new at this. Just signed up. What led me here from Google is that I am also looking for the Weight Watchers' meal plan from the 80's. My little pamphlet was pink and well worn. The plan worked well for me and was healthy. I'd like to try it again. Any help?

The weight watchers selective plan , on a lot of box food like cereals etc there use to be a exchange on it like 1 bread, 2 fat, but now they do not put them on anymore. Does anyone know how you can figure out the exchange on cereals etc.... thanks

Thank you Rustico Red, I do have a question. Do you figure your BMI or weight or anything and that depends on the servings you get per day? Or does everyone eat the same amount? I have always preferred this plan compared to others. To me it's healthier. No starving your body of proteins, or carbs ect.. Do you have a list of the serving size? Or a list of "free foods"? My ex-husband and 2 of his friends really lost the weight. It's been so long ago, I don't remember details. Thanks ahead of time for reading and answering. (or if anyone reading this can answer the questions I would very much appreciate it. I DO NOT LIKE the points. The other would work best for me.

Hi, have any of you been successful in obtaining a copy of the old diet.  I am also looking for the same plan and promised myself that I would start dieting when I find the old plan.  If you or anyone has a copy and could email it to me my body and health would be very appreciative.   Please and thank you.

Hello Everyone -

I am new to this forum, but I wanted to add this to the discussion. I have always loved Weight Watchers (not the new Points or PointsPlus plan), but the good old sound nutrition plan. It really worked for me in the late 80's and I have used it throughout the years to keep on track.

I have the Weight Watchers Quick and Easy Menu Cookbook-Silver Anniversary 1963-1988.

There is a slight difference on the food exchanges in the book and what is posted.

3 Fruit, 4-6 oz Protein, 3 Bread

"Appendix: Menu for Men and Youths (males 10 to 18, females 10 to 15), the menus should be adjusted as follows: Weeks 1 & 2 ADD 1 fruit, 2 bread, 2 protein, (youths only) 1 milk. Weeks 3, 4 & 5 ADD 1 to 2 fruit, 2 bread, 2 protein, (youths only) 1 to 2 milk."

Hope this information helps!

In 1986 at 25 because of health issues I went for a healthy 5'5",  135 to 180.  When I received the O.K.  As soon as I could I chose the Weight Watcher diet plan as I had seen it done wonders for both my mother and grandmother.  Back then there were no points, nor none of the things that are done now.  Just information on nutrition and a great small recipe book with choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner that could be followed easily. I think it was easy as it was quite limited although I did go on to buy the larger recipe book later.

The first week I lost over seven pounds. I think it was seeing the dramatic change on the scale that kept me believing in the diet. Sometimes I would plateau for two weeks  but I stayed on the diet and continued to lose weight all the way down to 127lbs. I then felt confidant to start to exercise and was able to maintain that weight, and consume more calories, with very slight fluctuation thought the rest of my life.

I now have many health issues, none weight related, I'm still not that heavy, but make it near impossible to exercise and the weight is inching up. I want to go back to the diet that worked so well.

Is there any way to obtain the old small recipe book or at least some of the recipes that were included?  That diet worked so well for three generations of women so to me it showed that no matter what your age it was healthy and beneficial.

Thanks for reading,

This is the EXACT plan I did with my mother for prom when I was in high school in '90. I lost easily then and achieved my goal in a matter of weeks. Many years and 4 kids later I have gained ALOT, lol. I did WW Momentum for 2 years and PointsPlus for a year and 60 lbs and many hundreds of dollars later, I have gained every pound back and then some. Though I know it's entirely my fault, I miss the uncomplicated exchange program from way back when. I have decided to do what worked for me in the 90s. I started Sept. 1 at 225 lbs.(my heaviest weight ever) and so far this is what I'm implementing to help me. I have found an Android App ($0.99) called CheckOff Diet Tracker that lets me customize my amount of exchanges & I've tailored it with the allowed exchanged from WW (circa '90). I love it. But I find that I do better when I can log the actual food that I've eaten. With that, I'm using Myfitnesspal which I've used off and on for a few years. I know it's a little work and I have to keep track of my optional calories from day to day but so far, I'm optimistic and I feel in control. I'm really glad I found this site. :-)

I am so glad to know I am not the only one who loves the old WW program from the 80s. I have tried the points also and had no luck whatsoever. I have been trying to count calories, but not doing it for me either. Thank you for posting the copies of the sheets for diary and exchanges. I am starting tomorrow!! With so many ppl liking the old plan I wonder why WW won't offer it again to those who want it.

Don't forget on the old plan in the eighties there was a WW soup that you could eat all you wanted. I don't have the recipe but I remember it had tomatoes, cabbage, onion, and other "free" vegetables. No potatoes, corn, etc. If anyone has the recipe I would love to have it. Thanks!

I have been looking for this plan for sometime. It really worked for me in the mid 80s and the new Weight Watchers program does not work for me at all.

Please German Girl will you send me the spreadsheet.

Does anyone have the old book for the first week of the old program? I remember it being an accelerated weight loss program.

Hi All, i am desperate to find the old WW meal plan. After the birth of my daughter in 1992, i tried it and the structured meal plan for breakfast lunch, dinner was great, i lost the 20+ pounds. my sister had it and can't find it anylonger. i am willing to pay someone to copy the program so that i can start it again. the menopause weight is killing me, this was the best plan i ever had. can anyone help? i have tried googling, ebay, amazon, etc. and weight watchers.com won't give it to you. I need a structured plan. too many choices don't work. my email is terry061957@gmail.com if anyone can help me. there are all sorts of new supplements, like the new thing from Dr. Oz the garbincia extract but people are trying to rip you off. so i figured going back to this proven system is my only salvation. thank you for listening.

I am so happy to have found this blog too, I just joined today.  I too, lost weight on the old weight watchers in the early 80's  and have not been able to ever really lose on the points system.  Thanks for your comments and help finding the food diary.  Did anyone ever get the recipe for the impossible weight watchers pie or the frog eye salad?  I have been looking for them too!  Thanks!

So after I was on here and reading all the posts, I had a thought...I have a Weight Watchers Quick Start Program Cookbook from the 80's so I went downstairs and drug it out.  Guess what, it tells all about the program.  While it does not have the food diary, it has everything else, so I would think you could find a copy of this book if you wanted it.  I am starting today!!

Hi Terry,
I will try to send you the quick start one.  I have not copied it from the book yet.  You might be better off to try to search the book and find a copy, maybe a library.  Give me a few days.

I am new to this and was also trying to find info on the WW from the 80's.  In my search I found this same weekly food diary, but it had M & Y or Y behind the amount boxes.  Does anyone know what they mean?  Probably something easy?!

When I was on WW in the 80's it really worked like a dream, easy and filling.  Now 30+ years later and having Progressive MS for 7 years all I have to do is look at a commerical on TV for food and I gain weight.  I can not exercise being in a electric wheelchair so I need all the info I can get.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give and I'll try to do the same.

Greetings! I'm just beginning my search for a copy of the old plan, but can tell you that 'M' means for men and 'Y' means for young people. The basic boxes are for everyone, and the extras apply only to men and/or young people. Hope this helps!

I have just about all of the UK WW cookbooks going w-a-y back, and from the early 80s the programme information was printed in the front. I have some of the weekly check sheets which I could scan if anyone wants them, but it should be fairly easy to knock something up on a computer anyway.

I got to goal in around 1983, using what was then called 'The Food Plan' and although I have to cookbook for it, I used the veggie version which isn't in the book. Columbia mentioned the little pink book - that was the plan I followed except that the veggie version was green and was the first time ever that WW had acknowledged vegetarians and allowed us to eat nuts and peanut butter. YUM!!

Must say that at 23 stones / 322 lbs I'm now the heaviest I've ever been and would love to follow the old plan again ...

Hi, I am new to the board too and would like a copy of the old plan from the 80's. Anything would be helpful. I lost my weight and maintained it for over 13 years and then about 13 pounds came back on. The old plan works and has worked well for me for years. The point system is not for me either. Anything that anyone has would be helpful for me email me at mikejudylaw@aol.com
Thanks so much:smile:

Hi there

I am also looking for the diet plan which ran for a two week period. It was scheduled out just like a calendar and included meals like a peanut butter sandwich, or tin of sardines in tomato sauce etc. Each day had a selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a great plan to use. Used to use the two week period as my balance time - so if needed, I may need to switch some meals around based one the food I had available.

It was not a case of mark off a protein, veg or fruit etc. It was all planned out. That is the meal plan diet sheet I am looking for.
