Hi, my name is Mattie and I'm 21 years old. I currently weight 177lbs and I've been stuck here for a while. I played soccer in high school and weighted a 150lbs, this is where I'd like to be again.  I work out 4-5 times a week and have been for months I just can't brake through 170lbs.  I have a feeling that when that happens it will get easier both physically and emotionally. I don't have crazy ideas that I will lose this weight over night and that it will be smooth saling all the way but I was hoping for suggestions. I've tried doing this on my own and it hasn't worked, I want my control back.

1) how tall are you
2) what kind of food do you eat
3) do you count calories, how many calories do you normally eat?

have you heard the suggestion that weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise?

I'm 5'7. I toe the line of being a vegetarian  the majority of my food is veggies andfruits and I rarely eat out. The only prepackaged food I have in my house is cereal and oatmeal. I generally count calories and the majority of the time I hit around 1300 a day. I'm not going to lie every couple of weeks I "cheat" and have homemade pizza or a candy bar, but that doesn't explain 30lbs weight gain when I budget it into my diet.

177lb and 5'7" -> BMI is 27.7; unadjusted RMR is 1766.

There. That is most probably the source of your problem. You are eating less than your unadjusted RMR.

A person with your stats normally requires 1766*1.2 = 2119 calories to maintain their weight with no exercise or activity (sedentary).

You are exercising 4-5 times a week - on those your body needs more calories (let's guess 2500+ calories)

Eating 1300 calories when your body expects 2500 is a deficit of 1200 calories or as a percentage 1200/2500 = 48%. That is a high percentage.

Have you done any damage? The damage is proportional to the length of time you have been under-eating.

The alarming situation is that you should be maintaining on 2100-2500 calories, but you are maintaining on 1300+CHEATS

What you should do is to GRADUALLY increase your intake (say 1 week 1400, 1 week 1500, 1 week 1600, 1 week 1700 and then stick at 1800)

All of the above presumes you are really stuck and really counting at 1300. I find it difficult to say how the "cheats" fit into this puzzle. If the cheats and calorie-counting inaccuracies are enough to push "1300" to "2500" then there is no mystery.
