Well I will admit it I am a crazy chocolate fan, find me anything that has chocolate in it and I am there! I was on a very healthy eatting plan for about 3 months where I didnt eat anything junk food at all and I stuck with the main food groups and I truthfully lost 20 pounds (with excersise in there as well) But anyways as we all know the one and only HUGE problem with chocolate is that it is soo high in fat,

has any other chocolate fan found any satisfying way to get your "fill" and fix that craving without all the fat?

I want to keep eatting healthy but I need something for my chocolate cravings that is not going to take me off the bandwagon and leave me feeling guilty everytime.

I have also heard of a powder product like cocoa called carub, has anyone heard of it or know how to make chocolate like treats with this ingredient?

Hi -

It's 'carob' seeds.

But, why not have (a little) chocolate during a planned 'lapse' day?   That way you don't build up cravings and 'fall off' your program.   Have at least 1 lapse per week.  Just don't exceed your 'maintenance' calorie allowance...

I make sugar free chocolate pudding with Low fat or skim milk.  Make one package the regular way and one with cool whip mixed in and layer together in a parfait class. Top with a dollop of cool whip. Also good substitute for "Ice Cream fix" for me.  Smooth, creamy and CHOCOLATY.

Hi Lee -

Sounds tempting, but have you worked out the cals/carbs/prot/fat per 100g?

I'd be interested to know whether it's still officially 'naughty'.

I am a big fan of the Jello sugar-free chocolate/vanilla swirl pudding.  I have one every day with my lunch and it seems to keep me satisfied from craving any other chocolate throughout the day.  Another thing I keep on hand is Popsicle sugar free fudgicles.  This way if I am really craving chocolate bad enough, I can grab one guiltlessly from the freezer.:D

Carob, while more healthy than chocolate does nothing to satisfy my chocolate need.  It must be missing some vital chemical or something and I think it tastes peculiar.  You can find all sorts of carob products at health food stores if you want to try.  It's worth a shot.  My mom loves the stuff but I just couldn't give up the "real" candy.  One of my favorite low-fat chocolate treats also are fudgcicles, especially in the summer time.

No I haven't worked it out.  Being naughty is something I can not do for health reasons.  A spike in sugar could be "BAD" for me.  I just really care about the carbs. The low fat milk is because the cholestrol is also a problem.  I mainly do it for flavor. I am a sandwich generation kid.  I am raising both my daughter and my mother. This is something everyone will eat.  This is chocolate I can have!
Anyway, if I think it's bad it may quench the need for being Bad.

O.K you've sparked my interest for the stats beyond carbs...

Using the pudding box stats with skim milk, store brand whipped topping...
2 boxes Sugar free Chocolate pudding, 4oz (1/2 container) whipped topping = 4 servings
Using Lite topping: Cal=222.5, Fat= <4g, Sodium=636mg, Carb=23g
Using Reg topping: Cal=238, Fat= <7g, Sodium=620mg, Carb=23
serving is 1/2 cup of pudding & 1/4 of the pudding/whipped topping mixture.
Using the desert dishes I might guess you could cut that almost in 1/2. When I did this there was quite a bit left over after making the pretty little desert cups.

If you know of a local health food store (for me its Whole Foods or Trader Joes), you can find dark chocolate there - always a good alternative to milk chocolate.  I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy ten months ago and I HAD to cut out ALL dairy products...but I found that dark chocolate not only has no dairy in it (not Hersey's Special Dark, because it has dry milk solids in it), but also has no trans fat or cholestorol - but it does contain fat, so still limit your portions.   Read the lables.  Yes, you will pay nearly three bucks for a bar of chocolate..for me, its better than none.

I am never giving up chocolate! If you feel deprived it will sabatoge your efforts. I just keep counting the calories. On a day I must have chocolate I just keep track of the calories and then don't have something else or exercise enough to burn off the extra chocolate calories. Is a minute or two of eating a wonderful chocolate treat worth 20-30 minutes on the exercise bike? Some days it is. A small, but quality chocolate is satisfying and you can do that for as low as 100 calories for a dark chocolate truffle.
