The main objectives of weight loss should be to attain longer life and better health.  Vanity plays a role but it is only a small reason for maintaining a health weight and life style. Most people who attempt to lose weight see it as a war against fat. That would be fine if fat were the real enemy.  Fat is simply a tissue that exists in the body.  Excessive fat is merely a byproduct of eating too much.

Our cells function best on glucose. Our brain cells function on glucose. Glucose is stored in the liver and what it is in the liver it is called glycogen. Crash diets or VLC (Very Low Calorie) Low Carb diets quickly deplete the liver of glycogen. That is a very very very bad thing. When that happen gallstone will form because now your body is running the ketones in the stored fat. When you are in ketosis for too long you will suffer permanent brain damage. You can become psychotic. If you don't believe me that prolonged Ketosis makes you crazy go to an Atkins forum or read one of his books.

Fortunately most crash diet attempts fail because over whelming hunger kicks in and the dieter eats every thing high in carbs he can get his hands on.  Because he has los muscle mass he will regain more fat than he lost.

Doctors in the US are the most dangerous and deadly doctors on earth. When people are obese or morbidly obese American doctors do some very barbaric things to these people. They put them on starvation diets and when that doesn't work they butcher their digestive system with a procedure called the gastric bypass. 1 in 50 people who have it done die. The ones who live don't fair much better. Because all but a few feet of their small intestine is bypassed they are unable to absorb vital nutrients. They also cannot digest sugars. They end up with chronic bad breath, gastric pain, gall bladder disease and malabsorption syndrome.

Some of you may have heard of Optifast or Medifast. It's garbage! It is also expensive. Doctors in the US put patients on this garbage and get a kick back for doing so. Some plans are as low as 800 calories a day. That is dangerous for nearly everyone. It is especially dangerous for obese people. The American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US. Our greedy doctors preside over the fattest population on earth. If you think a medical doctor has a solution for you obesity simply look at the facts and think again.

Extreme calorie restriction is bad thing for many reasons. DON'T DO IT!

Rock on CG Brady!

Yes, our medical profession is for the most part completely sold out to big pharma and/or just not educated on nutrition and it's vital role in health. Which is funny because it seems like studies are constantly in the news about how this fruit or this vegetable reduces your risk of cancer, but when was the last time you saw your doctor and they asked you what you were eating??

We need to follow the example of the people groups in the world that live long and are healthy. They eat a plant based diet devoid of processed foods and limited animal proteins. (pretty much the opposite of what most people eat in the western "civilized" world!)

You were able to explain the basics of nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight in two short paragraphs bu is has taken the diets gurus book after book after book and they still can't seem to explain it.

The leading cause of death and injury in the US is medical errors and hospital infections. Obesity is the 2nd leading cause of preventable death but it pales in comparison to what our health care industry does.

The West and the US in particular are a bunch of political lemmings. Ron Paul, a conservative's conservative just won CPAC's straw pole the same as he led in the polls in the 2008 primaries. He is the most popular and trusted man in US politics (I think he's full of #%@&!) but the GOP will not make him the candidate of their party.

People want to be lied to. People need to be lied to.  People love to be lied to. People work very hard to believe lies.

Simply put with a few exceptions men need to eat around 2300 - 2800 calories and they need to get them from nutrient plant based food Women need around 1800 - 2300 calories a day.
