i dont know if any of you have tried Xenical, it has just become avaliable over the counter from chemists.. i am taking it now, and its been nearly a week... so its only early days yet.. you have to stick to a resonable low fat diet as well so we shall see what comes of it..

i am also doing exercise when i can.. am currently 71kg and would like to be 55kg but i would settle for 2kg heavier .. i am only 159cm tall so it doesnt help .. but i am willing to give it a try

if anyone else has tried Xenical, please let me know how it went and what the results were ..

thanks ..

Hello, My name is Karen and my DH, Paul, got a prescription for 120mg xenical almost a month ago.  He quickly lost 19 pounds (in less than 7 days) but gained 5 back the next week.  He has remained stable since then.  We are walking 1 mile a day , 4 days a week now and keeping his meals to 30% calories from fat.  He does not take the pill for meals that are really low fat like cereal and skim milk for breakfast or a salad with only fatfree dressing and other ingredients.

I would LOVE to be able to take the pill as well but at $179 per 90 pill prescription we can not afford 2 prescriptions a month.  Where are you located and how much are you paying?  It has been approved in the United States for over the counter but , as far as I know, the pills are not on the market yet.  Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated and I would love to hear your progress.

I found this forum by searching on the web for "xenical forum" and you post came up so a big THANK YOU for making the original post.

:)

Karefree, i am so glad u joined the forum.. i have found this forum to be an inspiration and a great source of info.  I have been on xenical now for three weeks, and i have lost a lot of body fat.  I have been careful waht i have been eating/drinking and so far so good.  I also do a lot of walking and i have just started using the excercise bike.. even tho its been just over two weeks, i can feel the difference.. I am only using xenical to help me shed the weight.. once its gone, i will stick to my healthy approach to diet and excercise to keep it off.  My weight snuck on slowly over the last two years.. and mainly from eating junk food such as kfc and pizza.. not to mention the alcoholic drinks i was drinking on a regular basis.

even tho i have only lost a kilo or two.. i have actually lost a clothing size ..

In australia, we now can buy xenical over the counter.  They have made it available to the public thru chemists.  This makes it so much easier.  Its cost iss 84tabs for $136 but after i bought them, i shopped around online and found them much cheaper in some places.. so its probably a good idea to check out different places for cost.

I too dont take them for any meal that is really low in fat.. and i have a ultra slim milk drink every morning for breakfast, which is full of vitamins .

they do recommend that u take a vitamin suppliment while on the medication ...

Anyways please let me know how things are going for you both.. and thanks so much for ur input..

Lori, I am so glad to hear from you!  When changing my lifestyle I need all the help and inspiration I can find and I am sure sharing our xenical experiences will be a great help to me.

I have been searching pretty hard for an alternate source for the pills online and have found a place in the UK that sells 84 pills for $109 per one month supply to $60 per month if they are purchased 3 months at a time.  I would love to buy from there but I want to make sure they are legitimate and check to see if they will ship to the US and how much that would cost extra for the shipment.  The price for you in Australia is a much better buy than here.  Once ours goes ovc (it has been approved) it will hopefully be less here as well.

Congratulation on your achievement!  I would be thrilled to be one size smaller!  How much do you want to lose?  DH and I both need to lose a significant amount of weight.  I would love to get rid of about 90-100 pounds.  That seems like such a significant amount to me though that I believe I will think of it in smaller increments just for my own peace of mind.:dizzy:

How long do you ride your bike?  I have a recumbent bike that DH gave to me as a gift but am finding it uncomfortable to ride as my stomach gets in the way of my legs.  Sad but true.  It is much more comfortable than my old upright bike as far as the seat goes though.  Perhaps I will be able to ride the bike again soon though.

Please let me hear of your progress.

Okay, with 6 weeks under me belt (pardon the pun) i have stopped taking xenical altogether.  Personally i dont recommend them simply because they are a reason to eat fatty foods and not really consider healthy choices.  The packet does say to eat less fat, which we all should be doing anyway.. and it says to exercise as well.  So there is no reason, if ur eating healthy and exercising, that u would need diet pills of any kind.  It has taken me a while to learn this, and i feel that xenical should only be used as a last resort.  Try eating healthy and exercising every day.. and if nothing happens perhaps consider giving them a go.. BUT you are still going to have to do your research on what is healthy, and what isnt healthy for you to eat.  you will have to continue to eat healthy and exercise for the rest of ur life.  No point in doing it otherwise ..

i am 6kg down and have just this week started weight training so from now on the scales arent going to be a very good indication of what weight is coming off.. i will notice the difference tho in the way i feel, and as my body becomes firmer i will look different, clothes will fit different etc ..

So basically, save ur money and spend it on good fruit and veges and healthy choices, like wholemeal, or multigrain breads , cereals, (the lesser processed the better) lean meats such as fish and chicken (be careful with ur fish choices, some are really oily) and of course, good ole fruit and veges.  Also try and incorporate beans, lentils and brown rice.  I started eating them two weeks ago and wow the difference.. very good cleanser ..

Anyways if u would like to talk more, or would like to get into contact with me via email or msn or yahoo etc, please private message me and we can chat.  Sometimes it really helps to have someone to discuss things that are right and things that u feel arent going so right..

many blessings, good health and sunshine to you and ur partner..
all the best

Great going, Lori.  I have to say though that I am still very impressed with xenical.  It can make a difference.  All of the menu changes that you have mentioned are the best you can do for yourself and are the same changes that Roche suggests with xenical. We have never taken xenical as a way to eat higher fat foods though and have eaten low fat choices and whole foods (unprocessed as God made them :D) as much as possible for a long time.  I also have to say that although salmon is a higher fat fish it is a source for one of the good fats that people actually take in supplement form so please don't stop eating higher fat fish.  Just try to find it in wild alaskan form.

  Good luck to you on your new lifestyle and the changes you are incorporating.  The weights are a wonderful addition.  I wish you great success!

Thanks Karefree!  I would like to hear how u go on Xenical, i think its different for everyone.. the same with diets and exercise, it is all personal, what works for one, wont work for another etc.. ..I will keep an eye out for the Alaskan Salmon but i dont know if we can get it here.  The Seafood that is available to us here isnt the best, so i have to get it when its fresh, and then i dont think its that fresh anyway.  I live two hours from the coast, but when i go to the coast i sure make up for what i have missed *smiles*

keep me posted on how u are doing.. is lovely to hear from you..
all the best

I have found Xenical to not be worth the cost. It Blocks about 33% of the Fat that you consume. (At leat I think its 33%) if you are eating a 2000 calorie diet and eating 30% from Fat. then the Xenical will make a difference of about 200 Calories a day.

which means  it would help you lose just a bit less then 2lbs in a month. For the Money its easier to just eat 200 calories less a day and get the same effects.

Plus if you do eat too much fat...your gonna pay for it!!!!! :)

The placebo Effect though can be very useful with it. Wehn People think that the pill will do a lot for them especially when combined with diet and exercise then they will ofton be more inclined to stick to the diet and exercise.

the Pill Does what it says.....But it doesnt work on its own...and it will NOT make huge differences.

I agree with Pipermac .. everything you said is definately how it was for me as well.

Xenical is very expensive and is really not the answer.  I did find taking a tablet every meal a way of reminding myself that iwas trying to lose weight.. in that respect it was helpful but a simple vitamin pill probably would done the same thing..

I didnt like it so stopped taking it and the loss of my weight and getting back into shape was all to do with hard work and healthy eating.. not the tablets..

My advice to anyone who is thinking of buying them, is to try to eat properly and excercise first, and see what results take place ..
there are better ways to spend ur money

Yeah, it`s not always easier. For me the sence of hunger is terrible! That`s why I chose diet pills!

Xenical doesnt suppress hunger.  If you are hungry all the time your body is telling you something OR it could be an mental thing.  I know if i sit in front of hte computer, or the telly for any length of time i am looking for something to eat.. you can still eat the same amount of meals,  ( i eat 5 or 6 times a day) you just have to eat more healthy meals  ... I know there are some drugs on the market that suppress hunger but diet pills are only temporary... lifestyle changes are forever..

I know that!
I know diet pills are not the way out, but I pointed out before, I do excercise and eat healthily, tho it`s not the point with me. I don`t eat all the time in fron of telly or computer, I don`t eat junk food. But if I try to cut intake of food even slyly I tend to get hungry faster.
I think hoodia would help me to stay satisfied longer. And... I`m going to take a doze that is far less than stated. And see what would happend.
