Self esteem is a dangerous and absurd concept because it is conditional. More later.
Questions? Comments?

| I sort of understand what you are saying.....always seemed a little silly. But some people feel so bad about themselves for various reasons....I dunno. Question: Do you get a thrill out getting folks all worked up?

| what is the answer you are hoping to get? is that a trick comment? self esteem is huge, if you have it you love yourself. if you dont, then you doubt yourself in all ways, or most ways. doesnt matter what others say if you arent happy and comfortable then they may as well stop telling you otherwise because until you learn it from WITHIN....you arent learning it.

It's such a vague term. Different people use it to mean different things, so it's hard to discuss.
If you mean "I feel good because I performed well, and when I do badly I feel worthless", then yes, I agree that is a very dangerous way of thinking. I think it happens a lot in weight loss. People lose a pound and everything is wonderful. Gain a pound and it's a disaster. Not everyone has the idea that they are worthwhile and valuable no matter what they weigh.
Being successful gives you confidence, though, because you have tested yourself against something, and found the skills and resources to solve it. You know there are things you are capable of. Sometimes people lack confidence, and that is where the cheerleading aspect comes into it. It's useful for some people, I think.

Actually sometimes I do. However with heat comes light. When people are "worked up" they think differently. I am able to judge whether their emotions are rational. If and when they go back and read their stuff they will see how ridiculous they are being. It is memorialized for them.
The point of this is getting thin will not really improve one's self esteem and low self esteem is not why people get fat and stay fat. In fact fat people have a much better self image than skinny ones. That has been proven.
