i've posted a couple topics in the past, but here i am again! i realize that i usually only post when i'm planning on "starting over again" =/
ANYWAYS.
i am 16 years old and 5'4". i currently weigh in at 174lbs. in february, i started going on a diet. at that time, i weighed in at 200lbs exact. it was getting out of control, so i started changing my lifestyle. eating habits, excercise, etc.... and it was going really well for the first 4 or so months. at that point, i was at 160lbs.
then, i some how fell off the bandwagon and started eating whatever i felt like eating... the junk food... and i couldn't resist my temptations, and i unknowingly gained back 14lbs. so yes, i'm now at 174lbs.
i really want to start again, and cut all of that junk food out like i once was able to do!
SO, i decided to post here again =) it seems like everytime i do, i have more motivation to keep working at it!
any tips on how to resist temptation?
thanks guys =)
- a desperate sixteen year old girl wanting to lose weight.
p.s. my long term goal is to be 140lbs. i'm working at it slowly though!

Hey. I understand your frustration completely.
However, I think "diets" mess up your metabolism for the future. It happened to me. I started dieting when I was 14 yrs old. I am 29 now and have had a really tough time losing weight and I think it is because of all the many many many diets I was in in the past.
My only recommendation would be weight watchers (because you can eat what you like until you are satisfied and lose the weight.) or a moderate plan that doesn't get "QUICK" results. I believe the faster you lose the weight, the faster it will come back on!! It is a process. You didnt gain overnight, so give yourself some time and be patient. You CAN do it!!! This forum is like a support group, you can come here when you are frustrated or when you have a great day!!
When you have a craving, drink some water, and if it is still there, have a LITTLE of the food you crave, that way you wont be depriving yourself and put the food on a pedestal. I hope that helps!!

Hi sunshiinee (sorry, just realized I spelled your name wrong in the teen forum). Wow, we're the same age and the same height...we're not in the same place weight-wise, but I did start in the 170s.
I think the great thing is...you did it once, so you KNOW you can do it again, right
When I have a craving...I guess I try to distract myself. I go watch tv, read a book, play with my dogs...anything to try and get my mind off it.
The other thing I do is, like a lotof people have said on here, try to decide what I want more. Do I want a hot fudge sundae more, or do I want a size lower jeans more? (Sometimes I decide I want a sundae more...oops *blushing smilie*) But a lot of times that works...reminding myself of my goals, telling myself very firmly that what I really want is to be able to wear siuze medium shirts...
I'm glad you're jumping back on the band wagon. Would you consider starting a food/execise diary? Mine has helped me a lot. If you don't want to though, that's okay.
Hope to hear from you a lot! We can keep each other on track

Your goal sould be 120 if you are 5'4 and a teen.
Perhaps if you had some affirmations regarding junk food you could more easily resist the temptation. Tell yourself constantly that you will not eat junk food and then obey those commands.
It will probably take a couple of years before you lose your cravings for junk food. In the meantime sublimate those cravings with activity, watter or a calorie negative foods like celery or an apple.
The rule for you has to be Junk Food: Not now. Not ever. NEVER!

Ball...
What????? How do YOU know what her goal SHOULD be? There was no indication of her bodytype, frame, bone structure, muscle mass or body fat %....dont you need those bits of info before you suggest what a 16 yr old girl should want to look like?
...Not everyone is Nicole Richie. THANK GOD!
And...wow. What a rule to give her-no junk food not now not ever NEVER. Nothing like provoking a junk food craving since you cant EVER have one!!! Sorry, but I just don't agree. Studies have shown that MODERATION NOT ELIMINATION is better for long term success and health, not so much a strict deprivation of one single category. I am definitely not suggesting she eat all types of junk, but she could give herself a treat once or twice a week so its not on a pedestal.

I agree with OWF. If you tell yourself "no junk food" you will almost certainly fail. That is what has made me fail every time before, trying to be too strict.

Different things work for different people. In fact, over time as I have changed, different things have worked for me.
But we need to really think clearly about what makes sense because I think it's fair to say that most people continue to do things that don't work for them.
Which is why it's always good to hear other people's ideas. Someday, if not today, we might find them helpful.

She would not be at any risk at that weight regardless of her "body type" She would be very healthy at that weight. There are not too many 16 yearold females packing a whole lot of muscle 120 is about right for her. It is a normal weight for a female who is 5'4"

You are right .Most of them look more like the Goodyear blimp.

Ball,
Why are you so bitter? Did someone who is overweight hurt you in some way? Why are you so angry and taking it out on people you don't know who are just trying to help each other out and support each other???? Hmmmm..... You have NO idea what you are talking about. Obviously, you won't disclose any bio info about who you are, male or female, where you live, what you do for a living...so I am going to have to assume that you are a representative from AA (Anorexics Anonymous) because you think if women don't have bones showing like Nicole Richie, then you automatically jump to the conclusion that they are a goodyear blimp!! WOW! No in between for these women, huh? I am glad I don't see it that way. I believe that there are extremes, like Nicole Richie and Goodyear Blimp, but there are many people in between. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. I am sorry you are so sad....maybe you are hungry???

OK,show me one single solitary study that says junk food is good for you.
Someone who is 5'4" and 175 pounds has had enough junk food to last for a lifetime.
Junk food is not food. Junk food is poison. I wopuld not suggest that anyone eat poison even in moderation. Speaking of moderation please explain moderation as it pertains to gormandizers.
Poison is not a treat. A treat for a 16 yearold girl may be a manicure of a new pair of shoes. Eating addicting poison is no treat. It is just plain stupid.
YOU are attempting to sabbotage her. You slam at the beautiful Nicole Richie proves that. You sound very jealous of fit and attractive women. The world would be a better place if more women cared enough to look like Nicole. Men want to see her and women want to be her.

This should be every woman's goal. Woman like her are the standard womanly beauty by which all other women should be judged. Nicole Richie is a womanly woman. YUM!
Maybe if more women looked like her there would not be so many fat guys drooling over food.

Ball,
You sound like a loser. I wish I could be nice, but I no longer feel sorry for you. As far as what you said....how is a THREAT for a 16 year old girl a manicure for a new pair of shoes? How do you threaten someone to manicure their shoes?
By the way, I don't sabatoge people. I encourage and support and understand. I am a woman and I certainly DO NOT want to be Nicole Richie. I am happy with who I am. Thank you for trying to imply I want to be someone else, but again, you are wrong.

You got it babe. I am angry and ashamed because the US is the fattest country on earth. That fact disgusts me because I am a patriot and I used to be proud to be an American. 65% of the Americans disgust me. YUK!
I know this subject better than anyone on this site.
My bio? OK Male, 5' 10" 165 pounds of manly muscle Bench 350, squat 600 I can run a mile in under 5. Have done 50 chin ups. That is all you need to know.
I think you know I'm a guy. This is your chance to be hostile to a man like who prefers fit women like Nicole Richie to ones like gRoseanne Bar.
Women look best when their BMI is between 20 and 23. Fat women are a gross out to manly men like me. I suppose that some guys will settle for a fat girl but men like me have higher standards.
Life is too short for junky food, sucky movies, cheap wine, and for dating fat girls.
We want sexxy wives and healthy mothers for our children. Why would me settle for less?

FYI I deleted four posts containing foul language. I don't allow foul language and if I don't allow the word foul I won't allow the word f oul with a space either. Find another forum if you find you can't communicate without such language.

ObsessedwithFitness wrote: You know what I am "yapping" about, that's why you went back after my post and changed the grammar and spelling....so at least you tried to make some semblance of sense. You are still a loser in my book. Calling people you don't know "fat" Thats so sad.
Is there a rule about personal insults because this is the 2nd time you called me a loser. I cannot be a loser because I don't need to lose any weight. Can you say the same about yourself?
I don;t think I need to know someone personally to know if they are fat. Something like that is pretty obvious. Perahaps you would be more momfortable with the term gravitationally challenged.
You are an idiot. I am one of the people that co-workers bug about not eating the #%@&! they bring in, if you were an actual member, you'd have at least an IDEA of what and who you were insulting. Moron. You're OBVIOUSLY single and overweight I am sorry for you. Like you said, you are just being honest. You're right, I guess the truth does hurt, huh?
Two more insults. Well I guess when someone lacks the truth all they have left is insults.
Me single? That would come as a shock to my wife. Oh and I'm fat as well? Are you sure you are not talking about yourself.
You say you feel sorry for me yet you insult 3 times in this post. You have called me a moron and an idiot and then you called me a moron. I believe that George Bush is a moron but that being the case he probably knows that more calories in than out will result in the storage excess body fat. An Idot is a step below a moron and I beleive that you can't quite grast the concept. So when you call me an idiot I really think you are talking about yourself.
You're right, Nicole is someone's daughter, and so are all the "fat" women you've tried so hard to insult so far on CPH. What is your personal life like? I can't imagine it's too pleasant. I am sorry that you are overweight and you have problems, but please stop taking it out on everyone else here. As we have tried to tell you before (in nicer ways) we are here for a different reason than you are. We are here to be part of a supportive environment. You are here to be an insulting, obnoxious, ignoramus. Again, I am sorry you are dealing with these issues right now and that you are overweight, things will get better.
OOOO one more insult! That makes four in one post. You called me an ignoramus. Yep you do have me confused with you. Yep, you must be talking about yourself because you called me an insulting, obnoxious. ignoramus. In this post alone you have cornered the market on insults. You certainly have obnoxious covered and when it come to ignorance you win the gold medal. Congratualtions!
As to my personal life, I'll tell you what I did today. I consulted on a HVAC system for a big apartment complex. I had a meeting with some architectural engineers. I had an early dinner and an outdoor cafe. I spoke with my wife on the phone. She is also a consultant and she is out of town. I faxxed some drawings and specs. I had a dip in the pool. I watched an episode of Criss Angel and now I am slam dunking you.
How did things go for you at Waffle House today? Did ya git alotta tips from your rotund customers?

I feel bad that Ball thinks Nicole Ritchie is womanly and that she would make a good wife and mother. I saw her on the simple life with some kids and she was literally "whoring them up" for the first day of school. She was trying to convince the kindergartener that she needed to stuff her shirt and wear makeup!
There is no way she could even bear children! You need a decent amount of body fat to do that. In fact I saw multiple medical studies that said conception was increased dramatically in women who were slightly overweight as compared to those who were even slightly underweight or a normal weight.
Being anorexic isn't Nicole's only health issue, either. I would caution her about smoking, drinking, "hanging around with the wrong crowd", etc.

Sunshiinee,
I'm so sorry your plea for support has met such bitterness.
Welcome to CPH!
We are normally a wonderfully supportive haven. Congratulations on the loss to date. Look past the 14 that came back. Start over again!
Hopefully your parents are supportive and can shop for foods that will keep you on track to your goals.
My sister was in your situation many years ago. At that time I had the great metabolism and many activities to keep me slim. Now, she has become one of my most important supporters. She encouraged me to start Weight Watchers, and I couldn't be happier with my progress. She now sets the example for me!
We were all appalled with what Ball had to say in the forums. He has been banned from posting.
Concentrate on making healthy choices in food and in the types of exercise you do. You can reach your goals!!!We really are rooting for you!!

Hey Sunshiinee
First off - don't worry too much about putting a few pounds back on. You said you started at 200 and now you're 174. That still puts you 26 in front!! Well done!
I have just been through the same thing, although I managed to stop gaining weight a little quicker. I have found it really helpful to focus on doing things that are fun because I have lost some weight and can do them properly again. For example, I got onto my mountain bike and pedalled up some BIG hills last weekend. When I weighed 270 I couldn't do that. At 220, I can go nuts for an hour and still take the wife and son to the shops after a good sized, healthy breakfast!
Perhaps you find walking easier and more fulfilling since you lost 13% of your starting weight? Maybe you like pilates or calisthenics (both can be done from a book - you don't need to go to a gym)? Perhaps a short run? I'd encourage you to move, then feel good about drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fruit and veggies. That way you will really feel you are making progress, and hopefully build up some momentum. Don't starve yourself though - your body is a machine and needs fuel to run at peak level.
Keep at it, you're doing well. And when you feel a craving for something you shouldn't eat, drink some water and think about how you feel after exercising. I find it very motivating!
Cheers!
