A lot of my clients are the normal spouse. Normal spouses of fat spouses are victims of abuse. Being a fat spouse is abusive.
A husband of a beasty came to me and he was at his wits end. Circumstances would not allow him to divorce her at the time. She seemed like a therapy resistant glutton so I advised him to withdraw completely from her. He made sure that he had as little contact with her as possible. He was out of the house when ever she was there and when she was gone he was home. As soon as she would come home he'd make up an excuse to leave. He withdrew any and all affection.
When they were together he would ignore her and he barely spoke with her. After about 6 months things came to head. She finally confronted him and he did not hold back explaining his displeasure with her. He told her that he found her revolting and that it had to do with as much as her behavior as her appearance. This caused her to have a Zen moment and reform.
The three of us had a meeting and she went on my program and her weight loss is right on target. She has made wholesale changes. She's still too fat for him to get with her phyiscally without puking and he is slowly reconnecting with her emotionally.
I'm 90% certain that she will totally reform and stop being fat and nasty.
