Apparently because sporting events are routinely followed by fast food feeding frenzies, the newest claims say you should pull your kids out of sports rather than teach them healthy eating habits such as waiting for dinner after practice, or snacking on an apple if need be..

JS, what do you think of this claim? It's true that exercise doesn't play a large role in weight management, but this is a classic example of why we should be teaching our kids healthy eating habits as well as allowing them participation in sports. Blaming the sports they play for the extra pounds? That sounds like a fatling excuse to reel back the cash from soccer to spend on their ever-growing list of groceries.

Some things are just too absurd for words. I have to give this one some serious thought. I don't see how it is the fault of the sport or the coaches for why there is a feeding frenzy at games and after games.  I see fat waddling parent feeding their faces and keeping the concession stands in business.

We are a food centric culture. At meetings they always serve food like donuts and cookies and that is often advertised so that the pigs will show up.

The truth is, fat people hate sports because they have to take the time to bring their kids to practice and games and that cut into their eating and sitting time.

It's not just kids. There's an idea in sports events that "we're all burning so many calories, we can eat whatever we want." You wouldn't believe the junk food that gets served on group rides. Plus it looks nasty unless you're the first group of riders to hit it!

I learned to carry my own. BTW overwheightcyclist, if you read this thread, pack some frozen strawberries on long rides, especially in hot weather. They're a super cool-off midway through!
