Sometimes I think if a giant meteor struck the earth and killed everyone the universe would utter a sigh of relief. I recently went to a Weight Loss Surgery chat room and here's the transcript.

Me: I have a very important hypothetical question
<Dawnie 88> go ahead and ask Andre
<Yvonne> eh, dawnie.. you did it now lol
<Dawnie 88> uh oh..lol
Me: I have a dog who is fat because he eats too much
<Dawnie 88> what did i do..lol
<Yvonne> <-  waits for it    (uh huh)
<Yvonne> you see now?
Me: Now I have two or three options
Me: I can just feed him what ever he want
Me: I can restrict his food
Me: Or I can get him gastric bypass
Me: What would you do?

<vonage vinvon> sure give him the bypass... tell me which doctor will do it
<Dawnie 88> uh huh..well..i'd shoot the dog..who wants a fat dog..problem solved ;)
<vonage vinvon> and i'll send a cat there too
<Dawnie 88> stupid question..gets stupid answer :)
Me: Maybe the dog is an emotional eater
> Should we shoot people who over eat and won't control their eating?
<Yvonne> (( Dawnie ))) be safe and have fun !
<Dawnie 88> bye Andre..have a good day..hope you find someone to listen to you..
<Dawnie 88> bye Yvonne!
Me: The kids would cry if a shoot fat old Rover
Me: If I can restrict the dog's food to a safe level why can't people restrict there food to a safe level?
Me: This is a reality check for anyone here considering WLS
Me: Think about it before you pay someone to wreck you perfectly healthy digestive system

<vonage vinvon> nice talking with you andre... next time try to be considerate of the people you are talking to
<vonage vinvon> and not be a total jerk
Me: I am being very considerate
Me: Your surgeon should be so considerate to put your health before $$$$$$$
Me: Answer the question vonage
Me: If you can limit your dog's calories why can't you limit your own to a safe level?
<Watson> Back
<Watson> .
Me: Does anyone have the courage to answer?
<Watson> ...
Me: What about you Watson?
<Watson> What about me?
Me: If a person can restrict the amount of calories an overeating dog gets why can't they restrict their own?
Me: Put another way Watson... would you get WLS for you dog?

<Watson> Don't know.
<Watson> No.
Me: Why not?
<Watson> There in no WLS for dogs all I know.
Me: There is
Me: If a vet wanted to do it there are no laws stopping him

<Watson> Really? Since when? Never heard of WLS for dogs.
Me: Any vet has the skills to do it.
Me: It's not difficult

<Watson> Okay.
Me: But let's assume that WLS is widely available
Me: This is a hypothetical question
<Watson> Okay.
Me: You would not have it done. Right?
Me: What if it were free?

<Watson> Nods.
Me: Would you have it done on your dog ever?
<Watson> Don't know. I don't own one.
Me: Pretend you do own a dog and you really like the dog and your kids like the dog
<Watson> k
Me: You have a great dog and his only problem is that it over eats

Me: You have three options: 1. Let it over eat? 2> Retrict his food and take him for walks?  3. Get WLS for the dog?
<Watson> #2.
Me: Why #2?
<Watson> Makes sence.
Me: Why not WLS if it's free? You won't have to put up with the dog begging for food You won;t have to walk the dog.
<Watson> If I went with that, the dog would set want to beg & want to over eat.
Me: You won't have to measure his food
<Watson> I'll go by what the vet. tells me what is the right thing to do.
Me: The Vet gives you the three options I give you
<Watson> I'll still go with #2.
Me: What do you think a vet would say to you if you asked him about WLS for your dog? Why won;t you go with option 2 for yourself?  Why option 2 for the dog?

Watson left the room.

People have become so stupid that I predict in 10 years or less veterinarians will be offer WLS for fat people with fat pets. It may sound crazy now but 50 years ago butchering a perfectly healthy digestive system to prevent obesity sounded insane. I must be 50 years behind the time.

Here's the point. If you can limit how much your dog eats you can also limit how much you eat.

People get fat and stupid and then they die.

You know it's funny you put it into this context. My family recently adopted a Dachshund, to find out that like Labs, Doxies are eating machines! If they're not fed carefully, A "weenie dog" will eat himself out of mobility (short legs and big bellies- bad combo). He has to be fed separately from the yorkie to avoid eating both dog's food. Since it's considered a trait of the breed, does this mean some forms of "gluttony" are genetic?

Ancestral dog was a pig dog but it had to be. I have noticed that fat people have fat kids and fat dogs.

Think about how stupid people are. All they have to do is follow the directions on the dog food label. They can easily feed the dog properly and without much more effort than that. They can but they won't.

I doubt it's the dog food -I'm 90% sure that Fido's sharing in the same junk food/inactivity that the humans are. It's so sad because almost all dogs will be at the door the second they see sneakers or a leash. Some of the best times in my childhood were out exploring with my Mini Schnauzer- and we were both getting exercise.

Exactly! Dogs are happiest when you play with them. They love the bonding.

The best thing to feed a dog is dog food.

Got another one for you- remember the FA comparisons of weight loss to winning the lottery?

"Your actual odds of winning the lottery depend on where you play, but single state lotteries usually have odds of about 18 million to 1 while multiple state lotteries have odds as high as 120 million to 1"

Funny - people keep buying tickets.

I have been a food addict my whole life I took amphetimines for years and all of the ones that came after it and I know I damaged my body. But since I have uncovered the real reason I am constantly thingg about food and over eating I have no cravings what soever and I have lost 60lbs so far with another 20 to go. I am free from this dieting loosing and gaining cycle and most of all the constant thoughts of food and the inability to stop eating once I start. I am currently putting together a program so everyone who is interested can live the same freedom that I am now living I am so grateful! Conniea jimenezconnie93@yahoo.com

My program is about teaching how to release all the lies, illusions and made up stories that we made up telling ourselves for example that we will always struggle in life and inventorying your belief system in that area, knowing that our beliefs are creating our reality, how does that belief serve us? it doesen't it just keeps us struggling. And of course releasing the programs we created on shame(believing there is something wrong with us) guilt/punishment, and anger because we see ourselvves as so deprived. Why can mary eat what she wants and not gain weight? What are your beliefs and life experiences around that, and what did you decide about yourself when you gained weight? I will always be fat and struggling? What are the results of believing that? The results are you will always be fat and stuggling and simply by making new choices after you release the negative one, you start to see yourself in a new light of the real truth and life changes and the cravings and constant thoughts of food dissappear!!! i am creating this program as a weekly teleseminar, if you are interested please let me know. I am a Holistic counselor/lifecoach and created this to help myself and now I am passionate about sharing this with others. Thank You for asking many Blessing conniea jimenezconnie93@yahoo.com

That sounds outstanding.

It really is as simple as getting real. I too hold people's feet to the fire and ask them the tough questions.

I ask them to list all the reasons for why they "can't" eat the proper amount of food. Once they realize there there are no reasons for why they can't making excuses is more difficult for them.

If you want a real challenge try talking some sense into the wackos at fierce fatties http://fiercefatties.com/ It will sharpen your skills in dealing with liars and deniers.
