One of the most dangerous and destructive ideas is self esteem. The reason it is bad for you is because it is conditional.

You are not fat because of "low self esteem" You are fat because you eat too much all the time. You may not like the fact that you are fat but you like food more than not being fat.

You are not a victim of low self esteem. The fact is when it comes to the sense of self fat people have more psychological fortitute than normal people.  Normal people do not refer to themselves as BBW, SSBBW or BHM.

What is your point exactly? Certainly not all overweight people refer to themselves as beautiful.

A recent study had this result about negative ads focused on weight loss:Research shows that when people are made to feel stigmatized or ashamed of excess weight, this leads to a range of different health consequences that can ultimately reinforce obesity,?σΤιΌ?Ψ These can include binge eating and avoidance of exercise, as well as depression and anxiety. ?σΤιΌ?τWe have the challenge of finding ways to grab the public attention without using shame or stigma.?σΤιΌ?Ψ

So it would appear that encouraging people to feel confident that they can make healthy changes is more productive than shaming them.

Shame works and the Asian countries are proof of that. Gluttony is shameful behavior and molly coddling wrong doers is just plain stupid.

Americans are a bunch of wimps and they live to be offended.

The problem with self esteem is that it is conditional. The fact is, fatties have higher than average self esteem because they are constantly rewarding themselves with tasty treats. People with low self esteem are not self indulgent the way fatties are. If you want to see low self esteem check out a pro ana site.

When a fatty says she's gluttonous due to low self esteem, she's lying.
