Hello! I'm Ashley. I'm new here, look for my first post in the introductions section :)
Anyways, I can exercise, I can restrict calories. But for the life of me, I hate healthy foods. I love simple carbs(bagels, pasta, fresh italian bread) and hate green things, all seafood, and quickly get board of grilled chicken. I need some new ways to prepare them, which I'm sure will help. But I also mentally need to get over this aversion to all things healthy! If anyone has any tips on this, it would be much appreciated!!! This is what always gets me off track, then I beat myself up about not being able to stay on and eat whats good for me...

I hate most vegetables, but I've found ways to sneak them into my diet. Green smoothies are probably the best. My favourite would be and orange, some ginger and then heaps of spinach. I hate greens, but I really like green smoothies.
I also sneak veggies and mushrooms into hamburger patties. I've found that when I replace half of the meat with mushrooms, I can't tell the difference. Pizzas are another way to sneak in healthy veggies. Just make sure you use minimal cheese (or feta).
I've also found that the more I eat veggies, the more I like them. I actually don't mind lettuce now, though I would touch it before. Avocados, belle peppers, onion, mushrooms are just a few of the foods I've actually started to enjoy eating.

| Thanks so much! I've never tried the green smoothies(always thought they would taste veggie like) but that one sounds like it might be good! Also, I do LOVE mushrooms so I like that idea about the burger-would definitely make it much healthier! Thank you so much!

That's okay :).
When I first started drinking green smoothies, I only used a small amount of greens. Over time I gradually added more and more. I think that works best, so you get used to the taste.

Hi Ashley,
What about other colored fruits and vegetables? There are a lot of things out there that are very good for you that aren't green. I recently wrote a blog article about the importance of eating a variety of colors in your diet... for you, maybe working around the green things might help. Here are some ideas for you for other colored healthy produce:
Red
Raspberries
Apple varieties
Strawberries
Peppers
Rhubarb
Orange
Oranges
Carrots
Butternut Squash
Tangerines
Cantaloupe
Yellow
Acorn Squash
Pineapple
Summer Squash
Lemons
Mango
Green
Broccoli
Avocado
Asparagus
Limes
Kiwi
Blue/Indigo/Purple
Blueberries
Eggplant
Blackberries
Grapes
Cabbage

I'm a hugeee carb lover as well! I found that theres a lot of ways to incorporate my carbs in my meal but still cut calories, I've been making a lot of pasta dishes but only using half of the pasta that I would normally, and adding lots of vegetables instead. I still get full but it cuts the calories in half! I also really like making stir-frys. I think it's an awesome option for healthy meals, plus its quick and easy when you've got a busy schedule like me!

brooks i agree with stir frys- chop up some chicken, throw in some green peppers, onions, mushrooms, bit of olive oil, fantastic! for a bigger meal add some brown rice to it.
if you are a chocoholic like me opt for dark chocolate as its actually good for you, it boost good cholesterol levels and its an anti oxidant.
make a list of all the foods you cant live without and chooose its healthier option
white bread = brown bread
white rice = brown rice
milk choloate = dark chocolate
full fat yogourt = low fat greek yogourt
meat = healthy chicken breast!
and the list goes on....
good luck

Have you looked into different pasta manufacturers? There is a company I read about called Dreamsfield Pasta and they made high fiber pasta. They claim this offsets the carbs. It's worth looking into.

Dream fields got busted for having more carbs and raising insulin more than they claimed.
+1 on the blender not just for green smoothies, but blended soups and chili. The truck would probably work for sauces too but I'm living on soup these days because it's FREEZING here in Oregon. You can hide an astonishing amount of veg in a soup. Best ones are cauliflower and yellow squash since they thicken soups without being noticeable.
Give it time- your taste-buds will change.
Yoyo do you have Vitamix or other industrial stregnth blender? I imagine a knob of fresh ginger would kill my little bullet blender.Last edited on 12 Jan 2013 03:43 am by Tankgirl

| I did an internet search and read the various studies. Their claims may have been inaccurate but there is no denying that with the fiber content that they provide they are a solid pasta option.

I much prefer shiritaki noodles, since they have nearly no calories, and handle muliple reheatings.
Veggies are a great replacement for starches, too.
