oops, the title should be Where Are You Walking To? lol...not What (I'm new, lol, that's my excuse)
For 3 1/2 weeks I have been walking to Alaska, hehe
LOL, what is this crazy broad talking about?...
Well, before I read about "virtual" walks, I was a huge procrastinator and had no motivation whatsoever in the exercise department. Well, that was until I learned not to stress so much and have a little FUN with walking, the exercise I had decided on doing.
Basically, I picked a destination, a city/country I have always wanted to visit...and now I am walking there!
I kinda changed the "rules" slightly for my own benefit, being as this is my first "mini me" goal, so instead of tracking my mileage, I track my minutes. It takes a person around 37 hrs to "drive" from my town to Alaska..or 2,220 minutes...so that what I set my goal at...to walk 2,220 minutes and reach my "virtual" destination of Alaska. You can google the distance between your starting and finishing cities/countries..and then just go from there. You don't have to come up with an exact mileage/distance, it's "virtual" lol
I have had alot of fun walking on my treadmill and imagining that my walking is taking me to a far off land really is helping keep my motivation up.
If you are walking or even using a bike/eliptical machine, why not turn those minutes/miles into a "virtual" destination..it's fun and a good way to help keep your mojo up.
Enjoy "your" Journey!

Y'know, this is a pretty good idea! I need incentive to use my treadmill! I think I'm going to do the same! Maybe create a map and put "pushpins" on where I am currently at.
Hmm, since you are doing Alaska I don't want to steal your destination. Not yet anyway, maybe next time (why not, I'm already stealing your idea. Heh). I'd like to walk to Hawaii, but I think since it is impossible to physically walk to Hawaii I should pick a more realistic location.
I know! I'll walk to New York from my house! New York City is 1,457 miles away from my house. Here are the states I'd be walking through:
Oklahoma
Missouri
Illinois
Indiana
Ohio
Pennsylvania
New York
Kudos to SkinnyMclinky! That is a REALLY great idea!!

LOL CodeMonkey,
I didn't originally come up with the idea, I just read about it before starting my own journey and it gave me the motivation I needed to keep me going each day....and I just thought I would pass the idea along to others...
lol...there is no such thing as impossible...I know this to be fact...lol...so if you want to go to Hawaii..just use your imagination..and you can do anything..even walk on water!
It's all on fun...you can use "airmiles"...lol...there are no rules to a "virtual" walk. This is YOUR walk, make it fun...and then just do it!!
Have a blast!!

Well, I picked New York because I have never been there and would like to go. I've been in all the western states (except Alaska and Hawaii) and I'd like to virtually walk to a location I have never been to. Plus I'd like to be able to say "I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma" or "I'm in St. Louis" instead of "I'm in a bunch of water..." Who knows, maybe after this one I'll walk to Maimi. Or maybe walk back to my home town of Salt Lake City.
I'm going for pure torture. I will be going for actual miles. This means if I walk 3 miles, that's how far I have travelled. Hopefully I'm not making it so tough that I will give up.
Hmm, maybe I should set up WalkToNewYorkCity.com (just kidding)

I love this idea, it makes me wish I had a treadmill. I just started walking to work this week so maybe if I end up getting bored on my walks I'll start pretending I'm walking to sunny Mexico or something

| I am also in Oklahoma, - OKC, and last year I walked about 500 miles and I also drove back to Palm Bay Florida(1418 Miles) so I never made it walking last year but after an Achilles injury I am back up to 157 miles this year that puts me heading South on the Indian Nation Turnpike just south of Pittsburg, Oklahoma.

It took me a while to figure out where I wanted to go....but I've decided to walk to Canada, Toronto to be exact. I've never been to Canada! I'll probably walk there before I ever get there in person.
So...Google says 529 miles. If I walk 5x per week @3 miles that would take 35.3 weeks. That puts me at 247 days which is Sept 3 on a Leap Year. Cutting myself a little slack, my goal would be to 'get there' by September 30
A great motivator, thank you!

Well at 331 miles, I am on I-20 heading East - 18 miles West of Marshall, Texas with my eyes set on Shreveport. 1073 miles to Palm Bay.
