so, i have a 65cm balance ball with a few workout dvds, a set of resistance bands (also with a workout dvd) some 5 lb weights, and a jumprope. id like to use all of these to exercise but have it varied throughout the week and add some walking in.
now, i live in an apartment with two young kids (1 and 2) so i can only walk or jumprope 3 days a week (sunday, monday, tuesday) when hubby is home from work. everything else i can do while they're sleeping.
i usually wake up around 5 or 6am and have until 8 before the kids get up. then i have about 1.5-2 hours around noon while theyre napping. and they go to bed around 8.
which exercises should i do which days? should i space them out and exercise 3 times a day or just once? i dont want to strain anything and hurt myself, but obviously i want the best resuslts possible :)

(one approach:)
The other non-jumprope things sound like resistance training. For this to be effective the guideline is to space it out (e.g. 48 hours apart), so for example Wednesday and Saturday, or Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Try to design a 'total body workout' that targets each of the main muscle groups [say: legs, back, chest, shoulders, triceps, biceps], adjust the resistance so the exercise challenges your muscle by the end of your sets.

thanks :)
i was kind of thinking about doing this:
sunday - jumprope - 30 min
monday - yoga
tuesday - walk - 30 min
wednesday - resistance bands
thrusday - yoga
friday - blanace ball
saturday - rest?
i suppose i could do yoga again on saturdays but ive never really done it before and dont want to get too bored or burned out with it.
does that sound like an ok plan, though?

fine from the yoga and resistance training angles
but shame you can only fit 2 x 30 minutes of 'cardio' in there; I believe the current recommendation for health is to do be active on most days of the week

well that is just to start. i havent been active at all for a few years now and i dont want to push myself too much. i was going to see how i do with at least 30 minutes and go longer if i can.
and those are really the only days of the week i can do cardio-type stuff, or id have it mixed in more through out the week

My ideal workout plan (for what I am able to manage now) looks something like this. I like to do something active each day... I think it keeps me "in the habit". If I take too many days off in a row, then it seems harder to go back to it.
I do kinda agree with Nir though - that a little more cardio would be nice. But if this plan gives you the results you are looking for, then go for it!

thanks trimB :)
i know its going to be hard, but i think ive decided to walk every day. ill just have to get up at 5 am to do it before hubby leaves for work :)
i havent heard anything about it..but its ok to exercise in the cold right? i figure itll be around 32-38 degrees when i go out to walk. other than stretching and making sure i stay warm, is there anything i need to do for walking in the cold?

Just be safe walking so early... I'm sure it's still dark out at 5am. I do admire your dedication though.
Would you consider alternating walk/jog just to get your body warmed up in the cold weather? You will warm up faster that way. When I go out in the cold, it gets much more comfortable once my body has adjusted and warmed up. The faster you can get to the state, the better!
