Slowly gaining weight

Hi my name is Julia, I am new here!

I am 26 and extremely busy. I am always at work and I am also in graduate school, on occasion I add a part-time job to that load, I have a boyfriend and friends and there is always events to include eating out and it seems that I keep gaining weight. I was 160 lbs 5 months ago, and I am now 175lbs. I figured I would give this forum a try so that I can let my thoughts out and maybe get some advice. I don't know how to keep a balanced diet and exercise after a long tiring stressful day. All I want to do is lay down. I'm starting to feel out of breath and my heart pumps really fast. I'm kind of scared. My doctor tells me I am too young to get my heart checked out. Any tips?

I had my first fasted cholesterol blood test when I was 33. These days they even do this kind of test at pharmacies so you can have it done even if your doctor refuses. It can certainly help to 'scare you straight' if the number is not in the optimal range
