Hello everyone. I'm new here and just looking for support in losing weight. I'm 22 and looking to lose 65 pounds. I've been overweight my whole life. In March of 2009 I decided to finally do something about it and became vegan and started working out for the first time ever in my life. I lost over 60 pounds and was feeling great. Around late October I decided to take a break bc I didn't want to diet for the holidays..dumb decision. I walked a half marathon in January but after that I stopped eating healthy and  exercising. So here I am in August now and finally was brave enough to weigh myself and discovered I gained back 24 of the 60 pounds I lost. I am so disgusted with myself! My birthday is in exactly 3 weeks and I am determined to at least lose the 24 pounds I gained by then and from there I want to lose another 46 pounds. I've lost 5 pounds in 3 days so I have another 19 to go for my 3 week goal and 65 for my overall goal. I'm hoping to learn tips from here and perhaps get a diet buddy :)

Tom Venuto suggests it might be realistic to lose 6% of your body in 12 weeks. That's 1.5% in 3 weeks. Your 3 week target is 24.

24/0.015 = 1600lb.

Just in case you happen to weigh less than 1,600lb, the suggestion is that the 24lb goal is a bit unrealistic.

Do difficult to achieve (and ultimately unachieved) goals motivate you or depress you? different people react in different ways. Some people get annoyed when their goal isn't met (so they benefit from setting realistic goals) other people do better with a 'dream' goal which they strive towards and don't mind not meeting

Losing too fast will just put it back on, set yourself a more realistic goal. And don't be down on yourself, you didn't gain it all back and you've learned some healthy new habits that you can still use.

Good luck! Don't be so down on yourself, because You didn't gain it all back.
