So like I've seen a couple posts on here about how yummy and low-cal hummus is, and it piqued my curiosity. I've heard of hummus before, but I always figured it was more of a middle-eastern food and didn't realize that it was really eaten in the US. (you'd think taking economics and knowing about globalization I'dv found that obvious, but I just didn't think of it that way) So what exactly is it made of and is it vegetarian friendly? Not nesissarily vegan, but is there meat in it? Also, how expensive is it (this would be a huge factor in whether I can get some)? And would I be able to get it at a small town wal-mart? There aren't any other grocerie stores around here besides wal-mart. (I live basically in the middle of nowhere lol) Also, any other little tid-bits of info about it that I should know would be appreciated, too.
Thanks much!

| it's basically chick peas and spices. Very vegan friendly. Most nutritionists consider it an almost perfect snack food.

It's available pretty much everywhere. I live in small town with one store and they carry it here, so I would think even a small walmart would have it. It's also really easy to make: chick peas, olive oil, spices.

Hummus is great to dip veggies in or i eat it spread on pumpernickel bread which is an odd combo but tastes great.
I bought a really yummy slow roasted lamb, spinach & hummus wrap yesterday.
Its really easy to make hummus at home actually too, heres a recipe for a oil free low fat version:
INGREDIENTS
1 can (420g) chickpeas
1 garlic clove, crushed
?é?? cup tahini
Juice of one lemon
Sea salt
METHOD
Chickpeas can be used straight from the can for this recipe.
Place in food processor and blend with remaining ingredients until smooth.
DONE! Lasts about a week in the fridge.
oh another yummy thing is scooping the guts out of cherry tomatoes & putting hummus in.

Thanks so much. I'm definately going to try some soon as I can. I'm thinking about trying both store bought and making some from Shannon's recipe. It looks really yummy. And plenty of protein from the chickpeas is a good thing, too!
