Sometimes due to inconveniences, I have to choose to either eat at a fast food place, or not eat at all.  I'm wondering if a grilled chicken sandwich from arby's or burger king is a healthy food to eat.  From burger king I usually order these with ketchup and pickles, and from arby's with ketchup only.  Judging from their websites, the one from burger king is 400 calories and the one from arby's is 280 calories (the burger king one is bigger).  As far as I can tell, these seem to be just chicken breast and bread, with nothing very fattening.  Are these really a good diet food, or is there something I'm missing?  Should I keep eating these, or opt to wait a few hours until I can get home?

Honestly, anything from a fast-food restaurant is really bad for you and is not good diet food.  The best advice I can give you is if you haven't eaten for more than 4 hours and are super, super hungry then its probably best to eat something, even if it is fast-food because otherwise you're likely to binge later.  But go with the arby's sandwhich if you can because its lower in calories.  But if you're not starving or anything and can wait a few more hours to eat, then its really best to do so.  It'll save not only you're weight, but your health in general.

Remember that what you eat is just as important as how much you eat.

For example, you could eat a 100-calorie cookie, or you could eat a 100-calorie serving of celery (GOOD LUCK). Not only is the nutritional value of the cookie less, but because it is most likely full of simple carbs, it will not take much effort by your body to digest it. 100 calories worth of celery, on the other hand, would take your body a significant amount of effort to digest, burning more calories.

Even with the Arby's sandwich being 280 calories, you have to think about the whole picture. Where does the meat come from? Is it REALLY all white meat? Can you cook a grilled chicken sandwich at home and have it taste the same? If you can't, then you have to ask yourself what they add to the chicken. At home, you have the option of using whole wheat bread - very few restaurants have 100% whole wheat bread.

I don't recall any menu items from any restaurant that were more healthy than what I could make at home. Fast food is best avoided altogether, but is probably fine as an occasional treat. Don't make it a staple, or you will probably regret it later.

You might improve its health profile by loosing the bun - or half the bun.  There isn't much in the way of useful calories to be found in that bun.
