Lately I've been snacking on raisins throughout the day when my schedule gets hectic and doesn't allow regularly scheduled meals.
I know they have a lot of sugar, but this is the natural fructose found in grapes, right? They do a gret job of satisfying cravings for something sweet, but is the sugar found in raisins just as bad as refined sugar?

I guess it depends on why you wish to avoid sugar.
Dr Fuhrman has recipies were, in lou of sugar, he uses "date sugar" or otherwise adds dried dates into a mixture so that their sweetness is added to the recipe. Using fruit, fresh or dried, is the healthiest way of having something sweet. You are getting the sugar and you're getting the entire package [vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, fibre] none of which are in the white powder, which is pure empty calories
[though arguably not a great solution for a diabetic]

Be careful with your teeth.
I've always thought it would be fun to create a list of very healthy foods, but show that nothing is perfect. Raisins get in between your teeth and the "sugar" is not good for them. So it's best if you can brush afterwards.
But they are a great snack. I eat them with carrot sticks to keep the carrots from getting boring. I also put them on bran flakes for homemade raisin bran (manufactured raisin bran is full of sugar), put them on oatmeal, mix them with healthy nuts to sweeten them up in my own trail mix, and of course use them to make carrot salad.

Oooooh! I love raisins but be warned...it's kind of easy to get carried away with them...at least for me it is
If you reach the end of the day and find that you haven't eaten enough stustained calories for your BMR, then this is a great way to make up for it without eating something unhealthy. You can find those last 200 calories in either something healthy like a handful of raisins and peanuts, or in a milky way bar. I think you know the obvious choice!
Like Peter said, raisins and other things can mess with your teeth if you don't use common sense. If you want to be healthy in just one area like your weight or hair, then that's not too much of a challenge...but the best way to survive a good life is to be all-around healthy...this can be difficult!

| Never been a raisin fan.....Creepy little dried blobs of sugary goo. They hurt my teeth too.

Then there's chocolate. Comes in all kinds of creepy shapes, full of sugar, melts all over, and hurts my teeth.
I'll take the raisins!
