Eating after the working out

hi. i work out late and usually come home from the gym around 12. usually after the gym i get really really hungry so is it ok for me to eat something? i try to stay away from anything with carbs after 7pm (obvious carbs like bread or rice, potatoes etc) so when im really hungry after the gym ill eat fruit, or eggs, or even a small salad. i duno if thats killing my work out i need some help!

Theoretically you are better off taking most of your calories in your last meal from lean protein and fibrous carbs. (so the fruit and salad is just fine, coming under the 'fibrous carbs' category). If you're talking about egg whites, that's great for protein. If you're eating the yokes too - well that's a 'fat food' overall.

Personally I wouldn't put too much emphasis on that, as far as weight loss is concerned. Stay within your overall calorie target and eating little and often are keys. Obviously having a massive feast last thing at night is bad - but then it would be equally bad at lunchtime.

There is another reason not to eat late at night, which has nothing to do with weight loss: we sleep in a horizontal position and it is possible for the acids used to digest our foods to leak from our stomach and cause problems
