Hi, I'm new.  When i was 16 i was anorexic for a year and a half, i feel like i have now recovered, however I have put on too much weight in the recovery process.  I want to lose weight so that I am at a healthy weight range only, but I am finding it hard not to revert back to anorexic habits and thoughts.  Anyone else with the same problem?  Any tips?

How much do you weigh now?

That is an important question because  sometimes there is a choice-you either stay with a couple of so-called "extra" kilos or you revert back to your anorexia...if you stay with only a couple of "extra" kilos, then you do not risk your piece of mind, if you choose to lose weight when you are not overweight, then you could be on the dangerous road..

Then again it all depends how you are going to go about losing weight!!

Starvation or strict dieting-that is the way to eating disorders, upset with yourself and screwed health...if it is the plan with balanced meals and 2 small snacks and a bit of regular exercise, then you will be fine-mentally and physically too.

about 80kg at the moment, up from 45kg.
I should be around 55-60, so i definitely need to lose weight. I'm not unhealthy, i have no abdominal fat at all, and i do eat healthy, just way too much.
I think the hard part will be not allowing myself to get obsessed again, its hard trying to diet without going over the top

Try to make gradual changes, there is no rush and if you do it gradually, it is more likely that your result will be maintained  because you wil have instilled new habits by that time.

If  you need any support or help, send me a private message.

its so hard doing it gradually, i planned my meals for today but i didnt stick to them, and ate not even 500 calories, and then ran for 50 mins, and i feel secretly happy about it.
I know its not healthy, but it made me feel in charge.

That is because you have a compulsive personality...and think in "all-or-nothing" nature...you do things to extremes...

I don't think that you have  mastered your patterns that you developed in your anorexia a long time ago. You need psychological help because your eating is dictated by your emotions in most cases, I think and not  by the hunger signals...

You need to plan your meals and times and then stick to them because in that way you will be training your mind and yourself too to have a routine and not behave spontaneously...if you need help, send me a message and I will be able to help you.

Hi Addy, in my experience I am so powerless over the disease that I am not able to try a bit of weight loss.  Try to remember your days with anorexia.  Were you ever thin enough in your mind.  For myself, once I start with the behaviors I can't stop.  that is just me though, ya know?  I am too worried to even get back into the brief amount of time I am allowed to work out.  I will not stop after the half an hour.  I will rationalize that an hour would be ok and I am off to the races.  Just be careful and watch for warning signs that you have gone over the line.  If so, don't fret.  Talk with people in your support system before it gets too bad.  Good luck to you.

peace
