Hello Forum,
I'm looking for help. I have fully recovered from one eating disorder (Ana) but I feel like I've fallen into another one. I can't stop dieting or thinking about food in general. I've tried countless diets such as vegan/vegetarian, high protein/low carb, high carb/low calorie, etc. I used to spend my time usefully and creatively... now I find I'm so obsessed/upset about my current weight (125lbs at 5"5) that I can't focus on anything else. Any pointers? Anyone going through something similar?
All comments and advice are accepted.

Hi,
I don't think I can help you but I wanted to say that you're not alone with this! I also recovered from anorexia and I'm dieting and thinking about food like all the time. I just don't want to stop it. I would say that you should first try to figure out why you are doing this. Out of habit? Because you want to lose weight? Or maybe because you want to have control over your body? Or anything else!? Maybe you'll realize it's pointless!
Try to concentrate more on other things you like! Have fun with your friends or do something where you have to be very concentrated. That works best for me. When I'm dancing, I'm not thinking about these things for a while. I'm sure you can find something that works for you!
That's all I can think of, right now. And I wish you good luck!

Hi DaNcEaHoLiC,
Thank you for your thoughtful response. This obsession does come partially from habit, partially from trying to live a longer and healthy life, compassion and vanity! My final decision is to adopt a veg diet. I find this lifestyle keeps me at my fittest and healthiest!
I'm going to do my best to start thinking about other productive things and keep thoughts about food for meal times. It's going to be a challenge but the brain is more powerful than we like to think it is! Perhaps I should take up dancing... hehe

I'm happy to hear you want a longer and healthy life and if a veg diet works for, that's fine! But try to make sure you get enough iron, that's one of my biggest problems!
I'm sure you already know what foods are good for you and if you eat healthy and stop when you're full you won't need to worry about calories.
Unfortunately, you're right. Your brains really are more powerful than than we like to think they are but I hope for you that you'll be able to think less about food and all that. Oh, and I would definately recommend to try dancing, it's the best thing on earth!! ;-)

Haha, iron has been an issue for me in the past. Luckily, I'm surrounded by health stores so I take a natural iron supplement. I also take a B12 vitamin and eat quite a bit of fortified foods. Hope all this does the trick!
Letting go of calories has been my biggest hurdle. I'm thinking of just keeping a journal and writing down what I eat without calculating all the calories. I try to focus more how I feel when I eat certain things rather than fuss about calories, fat grams and all that jazz.
I have a few dancing videos at home... I'm sure it must be entertaining to watch me attempt hip hop, go go and island dancing from the sidelines!

| I've also thought about writing down what I eat but what would I tell my mum if she found out! So, I keep it in mind. Focusing more on how you feel sounds great and it's probably the best thing you can do! My body is like telling me..uhm...nothing?! lol

I find there's nothing wrong with writing down what you eat in a private journal. Most bodybuilders, competitors in figure competitions and fitness models keep a food/training journal. It's just evidence to prove how far you've come and how well you're eating/exercising now! If your mom gets concerned, just say you're trying to make sure you're eating enough so your body is in top shape!

I'm sure she would find and read it. She even read my diary!! And I don't think she would believe me but I know that she would be worried if she found out that I'm trying to lose weight. That's why I'm not telling her! Oh, and it would make her upset if she found out I'm lying to her about what I eat. So no, not a good idea for me! Last edited on 5 Jun 2008 12:48 pm by DaNcEaHoLiC

| Alright, I understand. A healthy relationship is far more important than words in a book!
