Hey lineman.....it won't work. I've tried it off and on for years, and I'm now at my heaviest at 5'8" and 330 lbs. There's lots of info out there about the starvation response....basically your body thinks it may never get food again and slows down your metabolism so much that it starts storing everything you eat as fat....and what may happen is that your body will use muscle fiber as energy BEFORE it uses fat, because the more muscle fiber uses more energy than fat!
What is working for me is to eat multiple small healthy meals.....say 3 oz of grilled tuna or chicken breast and 1 cup of spinach every 2-3 hours. For lunch and dinner, I add a sweet potato. When I get tired of spinach, I substitue strawberries or an apple or banana. Oranges are especially high in simple sugars, which means it will cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop quickly, leaving you tired and craving more sugar, so I avoid them. I've been following this healthy eating plan for 2 weeks now, and feel better than I've felt in years.
Please don't starve yourself....even if you do manage to lose some weight, if you go back to a normal diet, it comes back before you know it.....I know, I've been there and done that! This website is a great resource for both gaining knowledge and support....just give it a try....all you've got to lose is some weight, right???!! Rose

Hi,
Please, please do not consider starving yourself. There is absolutely nothing that you will accomplish by doing this and you will make yourself extremely sick.
Here are some tips that I can think off to perhaps get you going...these are just little things but may get you stared in the right direction.
If you drink soda, try decreasing the amount you drink in half. For example, if you drink 6 cans of soda a day, try only drinking 3 cans and replacing the other three with water. If you can't decrease by half, try a third.
When you are making your meals and putting them on the plate, try using a smaller side plate instead of "dinner" plate. It's a psycological thing...if you fill the smaller plate with food, you don't feel as if you are eating less. If you fill a dinner sized plate with just a small amount of food, you can see that is is a smaller portion, therefore you add more food.
Another good thing is to fill your plate like you would normally do, ecept, before you eat the food, simply divide it into quarters and eat only 3/4 of the food on your plate and leave the last quarter of food remaining.
Exercise wise..the heavier we are, the less work we have to do to get our heart rate up. if you can start off by simply making a point each day to "deliberatly" walk around your house for a full 10 mins aday...and then slowly increasing this each week by adding an extra minute to it, this will work wonders. Once you are able to do that, you can then start longer walks and you will find, you start noticing it getting easier and more enjoyable.
Making small changes add up very quickly. you will notice that you can do more during the day and you don't get tired as easily.
If your willing to make these smaller changes...and if your willing to be very patient, you WILL see the results.
I am sure that if you start posting on here, that everyone here will be more than happy to support you and give you that little boost of encouragment. we are all here for the same reason. we may have different weightloss goals/plans but together, we can do this!!
