Some people here are wondering how to tell an eating disorder.  Well, aside from the obvious, check out your various relationships.  Are you starting to consider not eating lunch more important than meeting your friend at a restaurant to catch up on her life?

I thought of this after reading a great article by a woman who was anorexic:

I want to get the thought out there.  I hope it helps!!!

What a good article, I can totally relate to it! About a year ago, I, too, became so obsessed with food/calorie intake that I was really beginning to push away the people whom I was close to. Friends would invite me out to eat and would get so worried about eating foods that I did not know the exact ingredients/calorie count of. I always wanted to make restaurant plans a at least a day in advance so I would be able to plan ahead how I would eat (I guess I had a sort of "eating schedule"). I remember at one point, a couple of friends (who I don't get to see very often, I should have been happy just to spend time with them) and I were out at dinner (I had a little side salad, the only "safe" thing on the menu, so I thought) and they wanted to order dessert for the table. So I gave in and had a few bites, then regretted it immediately. They wanted to go see a movie afterwards and I made up some dumb excuse as to why I had to get home, because all I could think was: "What if they want to get popcorn at the theater? I just know I'll lose control of myself and eat it! I can't eat anything else today!" I think I was pretty much having a nervous breakdown. Looking back, I feel so bad for being that way to my friends, I must have been miserable to be with. I could tell they were dissapointed I wouldn't see a movie with them.

Now, I can only be thankful my friends are so tolerant and understanding. It scares me to think that I could have easily let my obession destroy valuable relationships. So I agree wholeheartedly with the author, a good way to know whether or not you have a healthy relationship with food is to take a look at your relationships with other people. Thanks for posting it.
