Hi , my name is Meaghan & I'm new here. I've suffered from Compulsive Overeating disorder for awhile now. I've gone through the whole eat, starve, eat, starve cycle, to get all the extra weight off that I put on from overeating, but I ended up gaining it all back (obviously). This time, I'm trying to fight the disorder by dieting & exercise. I'm currently on the rotation diet by martin katahn ( I think that's his name. ) Usually to keep my mind off of eating all the time, I play a game, paint my nails, give myself a facial, stuff like that. Today is my first day of the rotation diet but I'm sure it will work better for me than the whole cycle of starving then overeating. My problem is I eat for EVERYTHING. I eat for comfort, happiness, out of boredom, sadness, etc. So I'm trying to help myself maintain a healthy lifestyle without letting the disorder get the best of me. I just thought I would introduce myself & everything.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions on what to do instead of overeating? I'd love to hear other ideas :]

Welcome to the forums!

Instead of eating out of boredom, I usually clean the house, do chores, run errands, etc.  However, I've found that sittng outside and reading a book seems to work as well, since there's no food around to tempt me.

Best of luck!

It's hard for me to imagine someone that wants to lose weight eating out of boredom. There are just too many other things you can find to do. I think you are eating for all the other reasons you mention.

But what are they?

How about starting a journal? Post here if you like or in a more private place.

But next time you want to eat, write about what you are feeling (not why you want to eat -- what you are feeling) and see what you learn.

It's just possible that if you discover something -- and work on whatever it is -- your desire to eat (over it) will go away.

Thanks for posting,

Welcome Meghan!

Ooh, reading's not good for me...all that sitting still makes for a great opportunity too munch! Especially if the ppl in the book are eating!:P

Let's see, what to do when you're bored:

get on here, talk to someone on the phone, write a poem, get on here, do a craft project, play with pets (if you have them), get on here, play a board game/card game, make a list of all the things you would buy if you had all the money you wanted, write a thank you/get well/thinking of you card or letter to someone, get on here, play clarinet (oops, that one's probably just me :D) Ummmmm...

take a nap, sing, turn music on really loud and dance around even if you don't know how, get on here, go to the library and check out some good books (no :birthday_cake: food :apple: at :pizza: the :chicken: library), do a crossword puzzle, play sudoku, do a word find, get on here, reorganize something, throw a party (no wait, there's usually food at parties...serve veggies and other healthy stuff), watch a good movie, go out and buy something (not food :P), go to the park and take a nature walk, go through all the junk you don't need and organize a yard sale...

Okay, I'm done. No, wait. Get on here!

Okay, and now that I have welcomed you and officially portrayed myself as the site's chatterbox, I shall quit stalling and go exercise like I said I was about to do before I saw your post..:D
